I have just heard the most ridiculous bit of scaremongering ever on This Morning.
Apparently the air you breathe during pregnancy can result in your child getting a form of childhood cancer.

We aren't allowed to drink, we aren't allowed to eat stuff... now we aren't even allowed to bloody breathe!!!!!

Not being greedy dd is two beginning of Feb, ds is eight days. Want ring because i carried ds for nearly 9 months - suffered heatburn back ache etc, gave birth to him (admittedly v quick birth) but still deserve ring. So it'll be three rings in 24 months....maybe i am being greedy! Never mind, it's his money!

starlover · 20/01/2005 14:17

this is the kind of thing i want...
only with more diamond!!! haha

Starlover - just tell dp how much your looking forward to going shopping on sat - it'll be nice to get out just the two of you before babe is born, and that could be at anytime now!! Then when he's out steer him to jewllery shops. I'll be leaving out rings guides for my dh and reminding him continually when my b.day is - he forgot last year!!! Remembered valentines day though which is a first. NBG what do we upgrade to! More money would be nice............

Newbarnsleygirl · 20/01/2005 14:28

Upgrades for you of course!
You most certainly want a bigger diamond. As for the colour don't go any lower than H or they look discoloured and don't have as much sparkle.

Newbarnsleygirl · 20/01/2005 14:29

I mean bigger diamonds!!!!

hippi · 20/01/2005 14:32

Sorry thought you meant new bloke, with more money type of upgrade. Disappointed now ! although bigger diamonds would do i suppose at a push..........and he does do most of the cooking....maybe i won't upgrade just yet!

starlover · 20/01/2005 14:35

yes, i need to do lots of research so that I end up with something fab, will probably be forever til I get another one lol!
I did do a bit of reading up on clarity, colour and carat and all that.
I just want something big and sparkly. VERY sparkly!

OP posts:
hippi · 20/01/2005 14:37

and expensive..........sorry got into money mode now. Big and sparkly sounds fab starlover!

starlover · 20/01/2005 14:43

i just read that for an engagement ring you should be looking at 2 month's salary! that's the "rule"

although, this isn't an engagement ring.... but sounds good to me anyway!

Mine wasn't an engaement ring til we got married dh, called it a commitment ring whatever that is! Made him feel better though. Just caught up with another thread on nappies - i'm 24 in Feb! And feel really old even though really young. 2 kids one degree, married and good career! So nowhere to go now ...

Found out i was expecting while in my 2nd year. Completed summer term Oct - Dec while pg. Went back for winter term when dd was 3 weeks old! Eek v.bad mum leaving her so young - only for three days and mum looked after her. Graduated in Oct 2003 when dd was 7 months. Midwifery - wow excellent - i went to social services thought about nursing or midwifery! Good luck to you - don't worry about babe they're pretty flexible really, and fit in with what ever you're doing. Honest

hippi · 20/01/2005 16:44

starlover - will be going very quiet now .... dh will be home soon. He has some time off and will probably hog computer. So I make most of it while ds is sleeping and dd is at mums(mum's got her so i can rest!) Anyway be back monday!!

starlover · 20/01/2005 17:47

have a nice weekend hippi.. and enjoy your rest!

I've been dropping hints to dh about the ring i want for my b.day, but he says he wants to choose himself otherwise it won't be a surprise! At the end of the day - you'll probably get the one you want. What's it like? Isn't it you're due date today?

starlover · 25/01/2005 12:43

yep... due date today! no signs of anything imminent though! although baby has dropped and it's incredibly painful to walk now!

the ring i have chosen is just a simple solitaire in a platinum claw setting. half a carat (i tried on a whole carat ut it looked a bit big)... and VERY SPARKLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have 2 things to look forward to now!

I want a traditional eternity ring - a platinum bad with saphires and diamonds. My engagement ring ia a pricess cut? saphire with two diamonds on a platinum band. He chose it! So want something to compliment rings i have - wedding band plain white gold I'm afraid! OOh it's so exiciting that you could be meeting your baby anyday now. I hated the waiting aroung with dd but the anticipation was nice. So if there are no posts from you for a couple of days we know why!

hippi · 25/01/2005 13:15

princess cut - i think thats right! it's cut as a rectangle!

starlover · 25/01/2005 13:27

that sounds lovely hippi... i did look at some really beautiful eternity rings while I was in the shop, but decided to go for one big rock this time!
it's brilliant cut, for extra sparkly-ness hehe
