Is there any consistancy in if your first baby was late the consequent babies will be too?

My first was a week late and this one, due tomorrow, seems quite happy where he is. My sister says he may well be a couple of weeks late as statistically they get later and later.
Tell me she's talking rubbish! My parents come out on 2nd June to 9th (We live in Gran Canaria) And I can't bear the thought of them missing the baby!

I thought that 1st ones were "meant" to be late and subsequent ones less likely to be late. Probably old wives' tale rather than statistically true though.

My dd1 was 11 days over and induced. dd2 2 days late and arrived fairly swiftly with no inducing.

jessikart · 28/05/2008 13:51

I always thought that statistically they come earlier and earlier - most first babies arrive late don't they? I'm not basing this on anything, just what I've assumed...and hope!

Well this is what I thought. I was banking on this one being bang on time! Just in time for Monday. I'm just going to have to walk A LOT and hope for the best. Any other remedies? I know gearing up in the bedroom to me another but my DH feels weird about that so far on in the pregnancy. Do I pin him down?

Don't pin him down you may squash him

I would advise against eating curry. We bought a curry the night before dd2 arrived. I went into labour at 4am next day and thankfully had opted not to eat the curry several hours before!

Pineapple?

Where is Lulu today - she will say nipple twiddling and also your initial suggestion.

Pinapple? tinned or fresh? My midwife here suggested cinnnemon (sp?)

If it were true that babies come later and later then surely pregnancy would not be classed as 40 weeks ish but a longer duration? If statistically most first babies were "late" and subsequent ones were even later, then the date from which they were due would be too "early". If that makes sense! Think your sis is getting babies muddled up with delivery men or dp's coming home from the pub. They're the ones that get later and later

devesa · 28/05/2008 14:28

Thanks Minkus, that made me giggle. Wouldn't it be great if giggles and laughter brought on labour?

Fresh I think but tis probably only a myth.

Good luck!

Chocolate. Nothing to do with bringing labour on but tastes lovely whilst you're waiting!

devesa · 28/05/2008 18:11

My first baby was two weeks late and my second was born on her due date.

Ecmo · 28/05/2008 18:19

mine were all late by 2 weeks. However I have a 35 day cycle so I would have conceived a week later than the dates that were worked out by doctor IYSWIM.

only no4 was on time but only coz things were going wrong so I'm not counting him in this!!
