Cyclogest pessaries and asprin when pregnant after recurrent miscarriage

Hello!

Im just looking for a bit of advice or guidance if possible as I’m so worried about doing the wrong thing.
I have just this morning found out I am pregnant again after 5 recurrent miscarriages, no living children.
We had started the NHS IVF route and in our initial consultation the nurse mentioned using the cyclogest progesterone pessaries 3 times daily, (in my fourth pregnancy I took them twice daily, fifth was a chemical) and she mentioned taking 150mg of asprin.
I started taking 150mgs of asprin at 3dpo this cycle.
I have just spoken to an IVF doctor as I wanted to double check my miscarriage blood panel which he has assured me is all normal. So I mentioned about the progesterone and he said twice daily, but when I mentioned about the nurse saying 3 times he said I could take it 3 times daily. Now reading up I’m not sure if that sounds a lot and if I can overdo it?? I appreciate the need for higher progesterone in IVF cycles as there isn’t that natural ovulation occuring.

He also said about the asprin but said to take 75mgs. I again mentioned what the nurse had said and said I’d been taking 150mgs. He said he just recommended 75, 81 or 100mg and that a higher dose could potentially increase bleeding risk but then in another breath said it probably won’t do any harm?!? So now as a bit of a loss. Everything I’ve read says 150mg is the new recommended dose, but also feel a bit like who am I to question an IVF doctor 🙈

I am waiting for a call back from the midwives but just looking for experiences really.

Thank you for reading all my ramblings!! I’m just so desperate for this baby to make it to our arms❤️

I did 2 pessaries a day 7 years ago after 3 losses. Also took 75mg aspirin. Daughter is 6.5 now. Good luck!

@MrsMAFs
thanks so much for your reply❤️
so sorry to hear about your losses but I’m so glad you got your daughter 🩷

Thats really reassuring thank you! My BMI is 28 so that’s the only thing I’m a but worried about if I need to have the higher dose asprin. I spoke to the midwife who said they can’t prescribe/advise but women that go through them are generally on 150mgs but to check with the miscarriage clinic. Keep getting different answers from different people it’s a minefield 🤯 just so desperate to do the right thing x

Following a v late term miscarriage/ early still birth, i then had ivf (successfully 2x) and had 3x cyclogest pessaries and 75mg aspirin throught most of both pregnancies.

Good luck!

My checklist in my pregnancy notes from my 12 week scan says if you are under 75kg to take 75mg and 150mg if you are over 75kg.

I’m 16 weeks today I’m currently taking the 75mg aspirin until birth and progesterone pessaries twice a day (until 16 weeks so I’ll stop the progesterone soon) because I’ve had 3 consecutive miscarriages but I haven’t actually had a recurrent miscarriage appointment yet as the doctor is on long term sick..
Fingers crossed for you!

I had a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks followed by 18 months of infertility, just as we were about to start fertility treatment I found out I was pregnant.

I was put on 2x 400mg cyclogest pessaries a day, one in the morning and one at night. I’m now 39 weeks pregnant due to have my baby girl this weekend! I truly believe the progesterone saved her.

With regards to you taking x3 progesterone a day, I can’t imagine the nurse and doctor would say yes to it if it could cause harm. However you could try ringing the clinic and asking the for a third opinion from another doctor if you are concerned. Or asking to speak to the same doctor again and discussing your concerns with them and see what they say.

Good luck, I hope this pregnancy works out for you ❤️

I took 3 pessaries a day until 12 weeks, then tapered down until 16 but I had an SCH which we wanted to absorb. I was taking 75mg aspirin but stopped once the SCH appeared but I also took blood thinning injections throughout the pregnancy due to an immune system issue.

Wow what an incredible response! Thank you all so so much for sharing your experiences and kind words ❤️
I’m so sorry for the losses but so glad everyones have had or currently having successful pregnancies 💕
Im feeling so reassured by the asprin dose and peoples use of the pessaries thank you so much!
Also interesting about the weight bracket for the aspirin thank you as I was trawling the internet trying to find a dose! I am around 72/73kg so seems I am safe to have the 75mg as I have been advised

Thank you all so much again, I’m feeling really reassured 🫶🏻 xx
