Thrush in early pregnancy

Hi All,

I am 5 weeks pregnancy and keep getting what I believe time be thrush (it's almost like a burning sensation which I believe is caused due to the hormones). I'm on various hormones as my pregnancy is an ivf pregnancy.

Can anyone recommend a solution to the reoccurring problem, or a probiotic to take?

Thanks

Are you using progesterone pessaries (for example)?. They could be causing the irritation. If not and it is thrush, then you just need a thrush treatment. Ideally a slightly longer course of anti thrush pessaries since it can be stubborn in pregnancy.

I am using the progesterone pessaries but I am inserting them through my rectum (sorry too much info) so I don't think that causes the same irritation. When you day anti thrush pessaries what do you mean by that sorry? I had just been using the external cream as I know you can't take the oral tablet?

Just the thrush treatment pessaries! Just insert with a finger instead of the applicator.

Maybe double check that it is actually thrush first.

Yeah you can just use the normal thrush treatment. Are you booked in with the midwife yet? As they can prescribe for you for free. If not you can just get it from the pharmacy.

God I didn't know they had them... I have only ever taken the oral tablets before but of course I cannot take them here. I haven't told the midwife yet... waiting till 7 weeks (my previous transfers have resulted in miscarriage at 7 weeks).

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it is thrush as the cream does make it go away but only for a little while. If it keeps coming back I'll ask the doctors to check.

I'm six weeks at the moment and going through the very same thing. I started getting recurring bouts of thrush after stopping the pill when we started our TTC journey, which my GP said was due to the change in hormones from that.

So its decision to rear its head again is definitely not welcome at all, but not particularly surprising.

Previously, I was a bit wary of using the pessary/internal cream and always opted for the tablet (in combo with the external cream).

However, after my doctor prescribed the pessary for me pre-pregnancy, the discomfort it causes down there cleared up so much quicker for me (literally overnight) compared to the tablet, so I would give it a go.

Hope it clears up soon for you soon, as it's really no fun at all. Particularly when you're peeing as much as we are in early pregnancy!
