Conception vitamins

I’m 29 and do not have any diagnosed conditions, I took the contraceptive pill from the age of 13 to the age of 22

After stopping the pill, my cycles were always 29-31 days (usually/almost always 30 days)

I was having difficulty conceiving and started taking conception vitamins in January 2023

After starting the vitamins, my cycles changed to about 33 days and ovulation was about day 18 (not sure what day it was before the vitamins but I assume earlier)

I got pregnant in March 2023 but sadly that pregnancy ended in miscarriage

I got pregnant again in June 2023 and went on to have a perfect baby daughter in March 2024

I have taken the conception vitamins every day again since my daughter was born

Now my periods are usually always 35 days and I ovulate day 22/23

My questions are-

Did the vitamins change the cycle?
How can vitamins change your cycle?
Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
Do the vitamins maybe ensure that the egg is matured enough and good quality and that’s why it takes longer to be released??
Or are the vitamins holding back healthy eggs?
Did my body maybe know that infertility was impending and that’s why I suddenly wanted children quickly and started taking the vitamins in the first place?
Are the vitamins just fixing a cycle that was ‘wrong’?
Should I still take the vitamins?

Hundreds if not thousands of people are experiencing the same thing taking conception vitamins and that’s only the people who post about it and it is honestly just too much of a coincidence. There must be a link but is it a good link or a bad link?

We’re obviously taught that 28 days is ‘normal’

Surely someone would’ve investigated and would know?

You only need to take folic acid and a vitamin d supplement when trying to conceive. Kindly, the vitamins aren’t working so why not stop them? Is it pregnacare by any chance? I don’t know the cause but it’s definitely been talked about before.

It would be useful to know what vitamins you are talking about, as there is a big difference between a regular multivitamin or something which contains specific substances such as inositol which can impact hormones.

We're not taught that 28 days is normal. 21-35 days is all considered normal.

Did the vitamins change the cycle? - Maybe, but correlation does not equal causation, it could have been anything and just so happened that you were taking vitamins

How can vitamins change your cycle? - Depends on what's in them. Inositol for example increases insulin resistance and has a knock-on effect on androgens and estrogen. This is perhaps only relevant to women with PCOS, but is an example of how supplements can impact your hormones and therefore your cycle. I suggest doing your own research here.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing? - Depends! It was a good thing for me as supplements shortened my cycle and made it predictable. My goal was different from yours. You need to ask yourself this question, not a forum.

Do the vitamins maybe ensure that the egg is matured enough and good quality and that’s why it takes longer to be released?? - I doubt it. You can take supplements such as CoQ10 to support egg quality but I don't think eggs take longer to be released as a result. You should probably ask a medical professional.

Or are the vitamins holding back healthy eggs? - No.

Did my body maybe know that infertility was impending and that’s why I suddenly wanted children quickly and started taking the vitamins in the first place? - Only you can answer this questions.

Are the vitamins just fixing a cycle that was ‘wrong’? - There's nothing wrong with your cycle. You are ovulating and menstruating regularly. That being said - are you 100% sure you're ovulating?

Should I still take the vitamins? - What is your goal? Are they helping? Do you want more children? Have you tried a few weeks without them? Are you tracking your ovulation and actively trying to conceive? Or what's the problem with a 35 day cycle?

@cheesycheesy For women who are trying to conceive, sometimes folic acid and vitamin d aren't enough. I needed a bit of help from supplements in order to fall pregnant and I wouldn't have if I was just on those two.
