Would the hospital do a reassurance scan at 17weeks if you were concerned?

Depends on what you're concerned about?

Springadorable · 27/07/2025 19:10

Almost certainly not. Why are you concerned? You could book a private scan, that would be fine though.

Iloveeverycat · 27/07/2025 19:20

If you are worried about something does your hospital have an early pregnancy unit. Usually you can ring them up for advice and they will tell you to go in if they think you should.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 27/07/2025 19:22

You can go into EPU and they will listen to heartbeat and movements etc, but usually won't scan unless they see a need to. If you want a scan, book a private one

WTF987 · 27/07/2025 19:26

Try calling your community midwife? They might fit you in for a heartbeat check if thats your concern?

Mrsttcno1 · 27/07/2025 19:26

On the NHS? No.

Reassurance scans are something you can pay for privately though.

I’d be very surprised if they would agree to even do this at 17 weeks pregnant. They used to do it from 16 weeks and stopped because baby is so small still that they can struggle to find it which of course then causes more anxiety, and referrals for scans which the NHS doesn’t have the scope for. They now don’t check until 20+ weeks at appointments even.

My local maternity assessment unit do doppler checks as standard (I go in every week due to pregnancy induced high BP)

ScMTB · 27/07/2025 19:52

As others have said it would probably depend on the reason why you are concerned but they follow guidelines on what they can offer based on criteria. Our EPAU won't see you after 14 weeks. Could certainly try ringing the midwife for advice or EPAU dependant on area but a private reassurance scan may be your best open if you are specifically looking for a scan.

Moosey898 · 27/07/2025 20:26

Same as PP our EPU only goes up to 14 weeks. You'd need to call midwife triage if you had concerns and they'd advise you on what they think is best for your situation

JungleRun21 · 27/07/2025 21:59

If you have an Early Pregnancy Unit they may see you but may not iffer a scan.
My EPU will only see you up until 16 weeks and then care moves to Maternity Triage.
They wont routinely scan unless there is very good reason to do so like bleeding or severe pain.
You can book a private scan but it depends why you need reassurance.

bk1981 · 28/07/2025 06:05

I would think it would depend on the reason. I had a heavy bleed and was checked with both a doppler and a scan at fourteen weeks. I definitely had a doppler check at my routine 18 week appointment with my first pregnancy (two years ago).

Just book a private scan OP
