I'm 9 weeks pregnant with No. 3 - just had a huge slab of pate for supper without thinking about it - I can't even remember why pate is bad! help - is it a disaster, or just something a bit daft like brie?

not much you can do now tho. I really wouldn't worry too much. Avoid it now you know but otherwise the chances of it doing any harm at all are absolutely tiny. Remember it's only our culture that freaks out about the whole what we shouyld and shouldn't eat. Babies are fine all over the world.

Just for information food poisioning has an incubation period of 48 hours (not 4) which sometimes makes the source of a dose hard to locate. So if anyone tells you they have food poisioning for a dodgy chinese the night before, they are lying!!!!

izzybiz · 28/05/2008 15:34

I'm sure I read somewhere that you are more likely to pick up listeria from an apple than pate.

No idea if thats true though!

Baffy · 28/05/2008 15:38

sorry to but in but... finallypregnant do you mean it can come on any time in the 48 hours?? or only after 48 hours?

I only ask as on hols last year 4 of us (adults) all ate the same food all day, 2 of us had bacon butties just before bed, and about 4 hours after that we we both violently ill. but the other 2 who didn't have the bacon were fine... so that confirmed my idea that it was the 4 hour thing...

so your post confused me

(sorry for hijack! agree with the others btw, should be fine if you only had a small amount as a one off)

Some food poisoning has a short incubation period - bacillus cereus is a bug that grows in rice that's been kept warm for a long time, and can cause vomiting within 4 hours.

thanks Inquisitive
