Crawling round the floor (braxton hicks) pains or something more worrying?

Have an irritable uterus and have had painful BHs from week 14 (gah!) 2nd pregnancy, had CS after failed induction so not entirely clear what natural contractions feel like.

Today started having them much worse, actually had to get down on hands and knees and breathe deeply till they stopped - only had a couple of them thank goodness but ended up going in the bath for two hours till I was sure they'd gone away (don't know why this helped, just felt compelled to go into water).

Am about 31 weeks.

Can I safely wait and see what happens over the next few days or do I need to call someone?

I had these the day before I gave birth to DD2 after a very short labour.

If you are in such pain that you have to stop what you are doing, I think I'd ring the midwife.

roobis · 27/05/2008 21:01

agree with expat, call the mw. fingers crossed x

Meeely2 · 27/05/2008 21:01

call someone please, even if nothing wrong and they tell you to go away, you'll be more relaxed. I was 29 weeks when I had show stopping pains with my twins....phoned midwidfe under duress from DH, went into hosp to get checked and had them the following day.

Not saying you are in labour, but the test generally is, if you can't speak during the pain its a real contraction....call midwife even to set mind at rest.

I called but they said since they'd stopped I was probably fine.

No pain at all today so far, just knackered. Baby is very happy.

Good job they didn't ask me to go in actually, several trees came down in the storm so I was stranded anyway!

I had these at 26 weeks, second pregnancy
1/2 way around sainsburys
I think it was nature's way to say, slow down, take it a bit easy.
i got ocado to deliver for the rest of the pregnancy
i think uteri are a little more 'irritable' second time.
Try to have a quiet day (easier said than done)

whomovedmychocolate · 28/05/2008 16:52

LOL DarrellRivers - I'll try and have a quiet day (while bailing out the flooded conservatory, saving the koi who are creeping out of the pond into the flooded garden and down to the Thames via the stream at the end of the garden.

Now Ocado is a good idea! I threw up in one of the freezers at Sainsburys when pregnant with DD because they are really deep and I leant over and squished my bump!

Had irritable uterus in both this prgnancy and my first. Annoying as hell, and constantly worrying as to whether BH's will turn into the real thing! Am only 34 weeks now.

I know that I get frequent BH's as I o not have a mass amount of fluid and I'm all baby, hence feel everything!

You shouldn't be getting pains though, but you may be all baby as well. Just call your local maternity unit if you feel like it. I have taken so many paracetamols and baths without ease of BH, but if you can fall asleep and you don't wake up because of them then you know the contractions are not the real thing.

expatinscotland · 28/05/2008 20:43

My uterus is very pissed off this time round .

Glad you are feeling better, WMMC.

whomovedmychocolate · 28/05/2008 22:01

Thanks Expat - I should think your uterus is attempting to hide behind your lungs at the thought of having to attend antenatal care - mine certainly is!

I'm determined to deliver by 38 weeks so I don't have to go see the daft consultant again!

Keep up the good work with the CDs and resting and we'll keep fingers crossed you get the birth you want and a bouncing baby.

cheesesarnie · 28/05/2008 22:05

i had lots of pains in 3rd pregnancy which they said was due to 2 previous csections.

whomovedmychocolate · 28/05/2008 22:06

Thanks, I am very chilled out about this baby actually. I know he's fine. My theory is, as long as I get through the next three weeks, whatever happens, he'll be fine. Now just have to sort out my milk-addicted DD.
