big boobs, small back, nursing bra needed!

I was a 32G pre pregnancy and my boobs haven't really grown even at 33 weeks. I'm still in my normal non underwired bras but on the last hook and they're getting a little tight. I'm probably a 34 G now so bought an Emma Jane maternity bra which is ok but no drop cups. Problem is, lots of nursing bras only do the bigger cup sizes in the bigger back sizes or they have straps that offer no support. Don't know if my ribs will shrink back in quickly, if so I may end up needing a 32 H or thereabouts when the milk comes in, really hoping they don't go bigger than that! I will get measured in a few weeks at Bravissimo but to be honest, I wasn't impressed with their selection. I'd rather buy online Anyone any ideas?

Emma Jane do an identical nursing bra up to G cup - you may find you settle back to that after a little while. When my milk came in I was a 32H for a week or so and I bought a Royce bra in Peter Jones/John Lewis. It was ugly and I ditched it as soon as the EJ fitted again but it was helpful to have something.

LittleConnie · 27/05/2008 17:34

I've found this one fantasticthis one

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/05/2008 17:39

The comfort ones here come in your size.

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/05/2008 17:41

and there's a choice in 32H here.

mankyscotslass · 27/05/2008 17:51

Bravissimo fitted me with some 34J royce ones...not pretty but did the trick. After a couple of months I was at a 32G so had more choice.

puppydavies · 27/05/2008 18:50

royce do some prettier ones these go up to a j cup in 32 and 30 band sizes.

hot milk are absolutely luverly (if you can get past the super sexy marketing thing), good quality and cheaper than you'd think. they go up to a FF in 32 and G in 34+, the cup sizes are generous by all accounts so you may get lucky there.

i would recommend if at all possible going to be properly fitted though as it makes all the difference and sizes can vary immensely between styles and brands. is there an independent stockist near you where you could try lots of brands side by side?

puppydavies · 27/05/2008 18:54

take note though that none of the bras on the models on the hot milk website are fitted properly, they should be in a smaller band/larger cup

ready4anothercoffee · 27/05/2008 19:03

I got my 32Gs from Bravissimo[sp?] they are fab and now on their 3rd baby! Well worth it! Yes they are not as pretty as those for the smaller boob, but being honest, with my boobs like support, esp at times like this!

Would recommend being fitted properly if at all poss. Again, the fitting service was fab, far surpassing anywhere else I'd tried.

Piffle · 27/05/2008 19:06

I've got two lovely freya rosalie nursing bras in 32gg for free if you wantbthem.
in fab condition as had to buy bigger ( nct or bravissimo) the nct one us fabby too

gillythekid · 27/05/2008 19:23

Oh Piffle that's really kind! I'm usually only a 30 in Fantasie (they make Freya) as they come up quite big around the back so a 32 might do the job. Baba hasn't moved down yet so hoping my ribs will move in a bit in a few weeks although I know sometimes this doesn't happen. If I can't use them I cold always pass them on again. Will definitely go and get measured but not for a few weeks, it's ok if you want to keep hold of them till then as I may go off the scale! Are we allowed to post an email address here or will I get told off?!

I bought a 32H Royce bra from Bravissimo. I just checked out the website and they have expanded the maternity range. Hurray! My ribs shrank back within a week or so, so no need to buy a 34 back nursing bra. What I did get on MN advice was a Bravado bra for the time when the milk was coming in. It's a very stretchy pull-on bra that was great when everything was changing size, and I ended up wearing it as my sleep bra after that. I would highly recommend it, and I'm going to get a new one for this pregnancy - it's here. My old one has sagged dramatically due to the stress of holding up my enormous BFing boobs!

mamamufin · 27/05/2008 19:35

Cheers girls, I have lots of ideas of what to order now! x

notyetBlooming · 27/05/2008 19:59

I also recommend the Bravado (Double Plus style for big boobs small back)

The design seems to cope with size fluctuations well and very comfy.

NCT sales have a good size selection - tho not all pretty!

Lizzzombie · 27/05/2008 20:07

Gilly - I used to work at Bravissimo, and now work at Mothercare and am the resident bra fitter in my branch.
I myself am 32 H (went up to 34 K when nursing!) & did a lot of research into what was available when I was needing nursing bras and unfortunately for small backs and big boobs, the choice is limited to functional, and not particularly pretty. Mothercare do a 32 H, but you will probably have to order it.
Freya at Bravissimo do a vaguely pretty one with pinky flowers on it which goes up to an H cup and is also available in an 30 back. Debenhams can also order the Freya ones in a bigger sized cup for you as they only stock up to a G cup generally.
Basically, all I found that fitted properly was the Royce one, or the Freya one. They are both pretty large, but hey, its not forever and eventually your boobs may go back to a smaller more manageable size!
HTH x

Oh I love MN, you're all fabulous, thank you!

The only decent ones I've found are the Elle McPherson ones - more like a crop top though but I put it on (not the lacy one) and my breasts looked like they did when I was 15!! Stupendous!

MrsTittleMouse · 27/05/2008 22:04

Elle Macpherson don't go up to big sizes though.

chocbiscuits · 27/05/2008 22:40

Hi i went up to a 34H when I was nursing!! It was a shock, but basically found drop cups are much the easiest for nursing in public but didn't have much support. I had some zip cups which were v. supportive but difficult to do back up, they were from figleaves but they seem to have stopped doing them. I also had a greatly supportive one with three hook and eyes at the front (again fiddly in public, either figleaves or bravissimo, don't remember). Ended up wearing the zip or hook and eyes at home or if I could be nursing in private and drop cup only when going to be feeding out in cafe or similar.

Piffle · 29/05/2008 09:12

Gilly you can email me kiwisbird at gmail dot com
no worries aboutcwaiting either

Piffle · 29/05/2008 09:17

actually I did use the bravado soft cup very little shape but very comfy and my bra of choice early on if not leaving the house. Ideal at night too if needed for pads etc.
the freya rosalies I have are pretty floral ones. The prettiest bra I've seen. Do try nct though they come to fit you and really comfy supportive large cup bras.

suzi2 · 29/05/2008 12:28

I had royce ones and the NCT comfort one. I'm a 36 back size though - not sure about the smaller back sizes. Went up to a J cup when breastfeeding (from an E/F pre pregnancy!). I don't think any non wired bra is particularly supportive once you get to those sorts of cup sizes. But they did the job for a couple of years + breastfeeding.

Oh, the other thing is if you're handy with a sewing maching you can buy the clips to modify other bras into drop cup ones.

margaret0709 · 18/10/2010 15:57

i had the same thing so i went to a proper maternity/nursing bra website and said how to measure urself properly and it worked pretty well for me Grin!

amoralia.co.uk/fitting-room/

theres bras are pretty gorgeous too, specially the lacey ones!

marriednotdead · 18/10/2010 16:40

Hi. I'm a specialist bra fitter (D-K) and seem to have sold nothing but nursing bras lately Smile

I'd reccommend the Royce Lauren (up to H) and Charlotte (to J). They come up tighter in the band than the Freya Dotty (to HH) but are a softer fit/feel.
Hotmilk have started to go up to a H cup in their latest range but you may have to shop around for it- we sold out of the larger cups of our first batch really quickly.
Beware of the dual sizing with Bravado; J/K is more like G/GG Angry
If you can get a proper fitting somewhere then you can order online if they don't have the stock.
