4 weeks and mild cramping

Hi everyone,

I just found out I’m 4 weeks pregnant, with my second. But I’ve got this mild cramping.

before my first I miscarried so I’m super anxious right now.

i wouldn’t say it’s severe pain and I can do normal activities.

The best way to describe it is pelvic pressure, but to my right side a slight throbbing pain but not a sharp pain like a dull ache.

previously had c section so know I may have scar tissue or may be tender!

but also terrified of ectopic or miscarriage.

please let me know your experiences x

@RainbowMay13 cramping in early pregnancy is super common! If you’re not bleeding then I don’t think it’s likely/necessarily a sign of impending miscarriage. I know how nerve-wracking pregnancy after loss is - I’m currently pregnant for the sixth time with only one child to show for it (so far!), and it’s so hard not to overanalyse every little twinge. But I really don’t think that mild cramping on its own is a reason to be concerned 🙂

I had mild to moderate cramping on both my successful pregnancies. One side tended to be worse for me, and GP said this is common enough. If the pain becomes sharp, or radiates to your shoulder, please seek a medical opinion as this would indicate ectopic. Otherwise, IME it's normal? I was told it's hormones relaxing muscles, and your uterus getting ready to stretch for baby.

Thank you both for your replies!

@greglet I am sorry you’ve gone through so many loses. It’s really hard and definitely makes this time so much more anxious. I’ll try to relax a bit unless it gets worse.

@Pleasecleanmyhouse Thank you. I will monitor and yes call GO or EPU if it gets worse!

I had cramping at around 4 weeks which was like yours. I ended up having brown blood coming out, went for a scan at 7 weeks as the brown bleeding lasted like 12 hours and wasnt heavy.
Nothing they could have done at that point.
Ive had 3 miscarriages and had the thought in my head that this may have been another and i was ok with that and just said to my partner if this is a 4th, we will just look at adopting instead of keeping trying.

My scan at 7 weeks showed a healthy baby, with a very strong heartbeat (first heartbeat in 4 pregnancies)

Im now 23 weeks and still going solid.

Cramping can be absolutely normal as your uterus stretches to make room for your bubba!

Good luck x

@LER2023 Thank you for taking the time to comment. So sorry about your loses.

yes fingers crossed it’s just normal pregnancy symptoms! I miss feeling naive to it all but because I’ve experienced a miscarriage in the past think I look into everything!

In my first pregnancy I had such strong cramps that I was so sure the outcome wouldn’t have been good but I now have a 2 year old ! Currently 31 weeks with my 2nd and I had quite strong period like cramps in the early weeks also, as long as your not bleeding and as a previous poster mentioned about shoulder pain etc then I wouldn’t worry too much. Cramp are definitely normal!

Thanks for all the comments.

i think i just worried as it was primarily one side! Some on the other and feel a pressure down in my lower belly and pelvis again more on right side.

the pain is so subtle though like not really bad pain and no bleeding or anything so hopefully all good!
