Early reassurance scan 2 weeks behind what I thought

I went for an early scan when I thought I was 8 weeks but the sonographer told me I was 6 weeks. There was a yolk sac and foetal pole and we saw a flicker of a heartbeat.

My LMP was 19th May so if counting from then I should be 8 weeks, not 6 like she said. 6 weeks ago would be roughly when I ovulated as I was taking ovulation tests and this is when my LH surge occurred. Are we just counting this pregnancy from different stages? Is the fact there was a foetal pole and heartbeat a positive sign? I'm just so confused and now even more worried than I was before I went for this scan.

My NHS scan isn't for another 4 weeks!

Unfortunately all you can do at this point is wait and see. If you read people’s experiences you’ll see it could go either way. Measuring 2 weeks behind at this stage isn’t really a good sign in my experience. But sometimes seeing a heartbeat can be a good sign from what other people have experienced.

In my own experience, I had a scan at 6.6 weeks. Was measuring 5.4 with a heartbeat. But two weeks later there was no growth and the heartbeat had stopped. I’m sure there are plenty of people who have had success in similar situations. Sadly it really is just a case of hoping for the best and waiting to see.

I agree with PP that it could go either way unfortunately. I had a scan at 8 weeks where sonographer said I was measuring 6, with a heartbeat, and I "must have got the dates wrong". Turned out later it wasn't growing properly and resulted in a miscarriage. I've seen plenty of stories from people measuring behind who still have a successful pregnancy though. It's hard to know at this point so don't lose hope until you know either way 💕

Was it an abdominal scan or TV OP?

Was it an abdominal scan or TV OP?

It was an abdominal. To be honest I couldn’t see the heartbeat but my husband assured me he could see something but I think now it was wishful thinking on his part.

Something just didn’t feel right to me so 2 days after that scan I phoned my EPU and she was also concerned by what I was saying so I went in for a scan. They did it abdominal at first and then TVS. She confirmed that the baby had stopped growing around 5+4 and that there was no heartbeat.

I now need to wait a week then go back to my EPU for a further scan then for management either medically or surgically.

We are absolutely devastated. It took us a year to get that positive result and for it to be gone is heartbreaking. We just have to have hope for the future.

I'm so so sorry for your loss. I've had losses too and it is absolutely devastating, particularly when it took a while to get that positive. I know nothing will make you feel better right now, but just know it's absolutely nothing you did and that you still have every chance of going on to have a successful pregnancy

I really hope that for you it's not, but I had exactly the same. Well, I should have been 7+5 but I was only meausuring 6 weeks. There was a heartbeat. 4 weeks later the miscarriage happened naturally.

Sorry, have just seen your update. Sorry for your loss, OP.
