NIPT gender

Hi all,

I posted last week that following a poor experience at our nhs scan we got a private scan and NIPT test. Got the results yesterday and everything has come back low risk which is of course the most important thing, very relieved and delighted with this. We also asked to know the gender as thought we were just aswell as we were going to get a private gender scan anyway at 16 weeks and it has come back 99% accurate for girl💗... I would be delighted either way with gender but am over the moon to be having a baby girl. Ive been googling (of course) first time mum anxiety and have seen threads of people saying NIPT was wrong and found out later gender was different. However Ive also read NIPT is usually much more accurate than ultrasound. I was 13 weeks 5 days when sample was taken and fetal fraction was 6% (2% was needed). Has anyone else had the NIPT and it was correct? Test was through ultrasound direct who use the illuminti (previously known as harmony test). I am likely overthinking but just dont want to get too excited!💗

I think the NIPT is very accurate, especially if done in a clinical environment rather than taking bloods at home where it can be contaminated and give incorrect results :) congratulations!

Hi. I had NIPT done in my last pregnancy and it was accurate in detecting I was having a boy. I did also have a gender scan later because any excuse for a scan, which obviously confirmed the same. It was also ultrasound direct that I used. Congratulations!

The NIPT us very accurate for determining the baby's sex as it looks at fetal DNA.
I had the NIPT at 10 weeks, not specifically for the babys sex and we were told boy.
I was convinced it was a girl because i had severe hyperemesis again.
Every NHS scan weve had since has clearly confirmed a boy, who is really not shy!

I had NIPT at 10 weeks with my dd and they confirmed it was a girl. I got it done privately as I wanted it as early as possible

I think they’re a lot more accurate than ultrasound statistically

NIPT at 10 weeks, they said “boy” (no percentages, just a statement) and his meat and two veg are visible at the scans!

I’ve never heard of NIPT being wrong about sex.

MyUmberSeal · 16/07/2025 22:15

It would be highly unusual if a NIPT got the gender wrong. Congrats 🎉.

I think they’re being truthful when saying it’s 99% accurate. Mine also was correct. When I went for the second scan at nhs I was asked if I wanted to know sex and told them that I’d had NIPT and they said well you definitely know as they test the chromosomes.

Virtually Never wrong for a girl. Occasionally wrong for a boy as the sample can get contaminated (also rare)

NIPT is very accurate given it looks at DNA. It correctly determined my first born and just had it done again at 11 weeks pregnant.
