Does anyone know if you can just put cold tap water in the Tommee Tippee Prep Machine, and if so how much? Or does it not matter?

Yes you can, fill the hopper to the top marker. With this heat though TT have suggested previously to chill the water in the fridge before adding to the PP machine

Does anyone have any hands tips/tricks for helping a constipated newborn please?

Our newborn baby has dry skin on his hands and feet. We purchased a product brand ‘Nala’s from the baby aisle in the supermarket, however our health visitor said not to use it. Does anyone recommend a particular shop/brand of coconut oil we can use on our newborns skin please?

You don’t need to put anything on a newborns skin. If it’s still the first few weeks peeling skin is normal and not a sign of dry skin.

For constipation you can do tummy massage and bicycle legs and if no poo by 4-5 days call your GP. Make sure you are making the formula with the right amount of water. I think readymade can be easier to digest so you could try that for awhile.

Thanks for your reply 👍
Its just the health visitor suggested coconut oil on her visit with us, but I haven’t put anything on his skin as yet, as I wanted to leave well alone for now.
Yes we’ve tried both tummy massage and bicycle legs, and we’ve had success today 😃👏
I wanted to breast feed, and tried my best, but unfortunately it was a constant struggle and we weren’t getting very far. I also ended up with mastitis, so that was very upsetting and painful.
We have been using expressed breast milk when I’m able to produce it, however it only seems to be in small quantities, and now we believe the mastitis has reappeared, and is now having an affect on my expressing 😩
We’ve also used ready made, however the cost was getting a little much, so thought it best to try and switch to formula when indoors, and use ready made when we’re out and about.

Newborns don’t always poo every day and it can take some time for their digestive systems to work it out. Mine only pooped every 4-5 days as a newborn. The baby bjorn bouncer was also good for inducing a poo at that age.

Don’t beat yourself up about not breastfeeding. It doesn’t for everyone and it didn’t for me despite spending money on breastfeeding consultants etc and pumping. I was much happier once I gave up pumping and regret doing it so long. Formula is perfectly fine and has lots of advantages too like partner can help out during the night sometimes. We used readymade until DD was drinking 4oz and then switched to the Perfect Prep machine.

@CocoDisney completely agree with @wishIwasonholiday10 on breastfeeding. I tried for longer than I should have done with mastitis, triple feeding and no sleep and it really damaged my mental health. You need to look after yourself too and not everyone can breastfeed. In the end it's never such a big deal as it feels.

I avoided anything on newborn skin the first month but then used Kokoso coconut oil for my daughter and will probably do the same for my second. Just test a small amount amount any reactions on babys skin first. I used to give my daughter a massage after a bath and she loved it

Thanks for the info on coconut oil & also for the breast feeding advice. It helps hearing others experiences.
I’ve stopped breast feeding already, as had to use nipple shields & I just couldn’t get on with them (nor could baby)
I’m still trying to express, but it’s time consuming and frustrating when you spend half an hour, only to get about 10/20ml!
I plan to call 111 or the GP in the morning to see if I can potentially get some antibiotics for mastitis if required.
Persevering with the formula, and hopefully it’ll just take some time and patience for him to get used to it🤞

Sorry, another question for everyone!
When using the Tommee Tippee Prep Maker for formula feeding, do you have to use the feed immediately after making it up, or can you store in the fridge for a period of time before using?
