Hi guys,

I phoned the docs today to ask as I have had 3 miscarriages, and there is a 4-5 month delay for the recurrent miscarriage clinic, if I could get some support from the doctors. I have heard people getting HcG blood tests to monitor early rises and this is when I have had my miscarriages,

The doctor left a message saying nothing about blood tests but if I have any concerns I should go to the EAU. I double checked with the receptionist that my request was passed on and she confirmed on the 'board' they use that my exact wording went through to the doc.

So is it the EAU that does blood tests, is it worth it? I just thought someone would give me more support now I have had 3 miscarriages....?

I'm sorry for your losses.
I don't think it's particularly common to have HCG monitored.
I had two losses last year and had a referral to the reoccurring miscarriage team. I was pregnant again when the appointment came through. I had been through the epu and had an early scan and they prescribed me progesterone. I did have my HCG measured but this was because I didn't know how pregnant I was as I hadn't had a period since my last loss and they wanted to know when to get me in for an early scan.
When I had the appointment with the reoccurring miscarriage team came through I asked if there was anything they'd recommend and they said just the progesterone I was already on.

It might be worth giving the epu a call for advice.

Its not that common to have them done at all during pregnancy, only if your showing signs of ectopic i believe (dont quote me i could be wrong😅)

Miscarriage clinic timing is so incorrect and are only told that because apparently thats the nhs's public timing.. what they tell everyone so they lie to the general public about time frames. (I was told this by a booking coordinator for the nhs)
It took me 10 months to get in to the miscarriage clinic and they just said go for these blood tests and then when you are on your period you go for this other test where they basically put dye inside your uterus to check for blockages. But if i was to 'accidentally' fall pregnant i would be on progesterone pessaries until 16 weeks.

A week after seeing the miscarriage clinic i fell pregnant and was put on progesterone after 3 days of a positive test, im now 21 weeks pregnant.

On day 17 - day 19 of your cycle go for a FBC (full blood count) this will check everything from hormones to your liver, kidney ect.

If you can get the ball rolling to begin with, when you go to the miscarriage clinic they will tell you what you need to do going further and one of them is 'do not get pregnant while waiting for the clinic, dont use sythetic hormones eg. Pill, morning after pill, depo shot, patch ect. Just stick with condoms to avoid pregnancy.. well i didnt do that at all and still didnt fall pregnant until i was 10 months into trying!

Good luck and push for progesterone and further testing

My EPU won't do HCG bloods unless there's a suspected ectopic. They do early reassure scans after 3 losses though.

They were also where I had my bloods for recurrent miscarriage, I was lucky and got seen very quickly and initial tests were done as soon as possible post miscarriage (can't remember exact timings but I think it was 6 weeks post surgery they could take the bloods).

As others have said, unless you are private or are under the care of the recurrent miscarriage clinic on the NHS, they won’t do bloods to monitor HCG levels.

If you have had 3 consecutive miscarriages now though you can be referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic. That isn’t a quick process unfortunately if you are relying on the NHS and in my area it’s around an 8 month wait now from your referral to first appointment, and even then with 4-12 week waits between appointments.

I meant to say, I had my referral to the reoccurring miscarriage team in Dec and my appointment was the end of March! The clinic I was under had a 12 weeks minimum wait as some of the tests need a 12 week gap between the test and your last pregnancy so some clinics can move quicker than others. The leaflet I was given about the reoccurring miscarriage team quoted wait times varying between 2 months and 2 years depending on the clinic!!

Im so sorry for your losses. No harm in contacting EPAU as they may be able to start you on progesterone. Have you ever had your progesterone checked?
Routine HCGs wouldn't really be done as the results wouldn't impact care. It would only show a rise or fall but doesn't impact if a pregnancy is successful or not. So for that reason its better to have a proactive plan in place eg progesterone, regardless of HCG levels.
