37+4 Braxton hicks?

Hey guys, I’m now 37+4 and I went into hospital this morning for reduced movements, everything was fine but I was having regular cramping that was showing on the CTG monitor. A week ago I had similar too, I had cramping and tightening for a few hours and then it went away. Today the cramps were stronger though, the toco reading even reached 60 at one point. And they were regular, every 8 mins or so. It was so weird because they just started as soon as I went on the monitor. The doctor didn’t say anything about this though so I’m guessing they were Braxton hicks, and now they’ve almost completely gone away. Is this normal at this stage? To get contractions or cramps for a few hours and then they go away? It’s so tiring, and it was quite painful too.

This sounds normal to me but it shouldn’t be too tiring/painful I think..? Maybe it is for some people, it wasnt for me. Your body may be starting to gear up for labour. I had period style pains for a few nights before labour started - I think my body was gearing up for contractions, and then when labour did come properly for me it was established very quickly which was good. Is it your first? The main thing is to listen to your body as instinct at this stage is so important and rarely wrong x

Thank you so much. It wasn’t too too painful but it was painful. It’s my second baby, but my first DS was born via ELCS at 38 weeks and I didn’t have any Braxton Hicks or cramping when I was pregnant with him. Which is why I’m so confused this time round haha.

Can totally understand why you’re worried, keep an eye on it and trust your instincts. But hopefully it’s your body getting to do the incredible..! 💪 Wishing you and your little precious one a happy delivery x

Some people have mild pain with BH, they're not always completely painless. It can be really normal, though, to have on and off cramping, especially if you haven't laboured before. Sounds more likely to be that than BH if they had a pattern and pain. Your body can take a while to figure it all out when it labours for the first time, hence stopping and starting.

Are you hoping to labour this time, or have an elective section? My advice would differ if going for section, as obviously you don't want to be in established labour when you go in. But if hoping to labour, then just loosely keep an eye on timings if they start again. Carry on as normal where possible, because focusing on them too much can scare them away in my experience (stress hormones squash labour hormones😅). If they become increasingly painful / intense, and increase in frequency / duration then ring labour ward for advice. Or if any pain directed to your scar go in for assessment. Best of luck!

I want to try for a VBAC this time, thank you so much ☺️
