Hi all, I am 18 weeks pregnant and think I probably need to start using something to try to limit stretch marks. What did others use that they rated please? Thank you

Nothing works and Ive been told this by my GP and 2 midwives. You can moisturise your tummy to help the itching from stretchmarks but all those oils and creams are a marketing ploy. Stretchmarks are genetic I was told and some women are lucky not to get them and some women will get them no matter what they try. I'm one that gets them and in my first pregnancy I tried everything before knowing that they are a genetic thing

All the women in my family have had stretch marks I used Palmers cocoa pregnancy butter 3x a day and I put on about 3 and a half stone. Not a single stretchmark.

I didn’t get any, but also didn’t use any products apart from a belly band for the final couple of months, which may or may not have helped by supporting the bump and therefore skin. I really don’t think the creams, oils etc work.

I have no idea if it really had any impact, but I used Clarins Body Tonic Treatment Oil each evening as it had been recommended to me. I didn’t get any stretch marks but I also had quite a small baby and only carried until my due date, so that potentially had more to do with it than the oil. That said, it smells lovely and was a nice little relaxing moment of rubbing my bump before bed time, so there is no harm in using it if you want to. I just wouldn’t do it expecting it to necessarily work.

Meant to add, DS was also born at 41+2 and 9lbs13 so I really was due some if I was going to get them! Grin

I've read in countless articles that moisturising the skin, staying hydrated, and gentle exercise to promote blood flow can all help reduce stretch marks. But genetics is a big factor. I had quite a lot of stretch marks during my first pregnancy, but I’ll admit I wasn’t very consistent with those routines back then. On my second and third, I used the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Lotion and some of this Stretch Marks Cream from Pigeon, and I didn’t notice any new ones, just those old slightly faded ones that I got from my first, so I guess they've helped somehow.

They all happen in a layer of skin that products simply can’t penetrate to I’m afraid. Anyone that’s managed to keep them away has had some luck and coincidence.

Interestingly, I have loads from growth and being overweight in places like the backs of my knees and under my arms, but I’ve only ever had a couple of small ones on my stomach during my pregnancies. So it’s not even whether you’re prone to them or not.

I never got any and didn’t use anything. I was also told that products don’t help and it’s basically genetics.
