Hi everyone,

I had a scan today and I’m feeling quite shaken. Based on my LMP, I should be 8 weeks and 3 days, but I don’t know exactly when I ovulated. The sonographer said the baby is measuring 7 weeks, with a crown-rump length of 11mm, but there was no heartbeat. She was very kind, said she was sorry, and advised me to book a follow-up scan at the EPU in a week.

Has anyone experienced something similar and had a positive outcome?

I know 11mm is on the larger side for not seeing a heartbeat, so I’m preparing myself for bad news, but I’d really appreciate hearing from others who’ve been through this—either way. It’s hard to sit and wait.

Thanks in advance 💔

I'm really sorry you're going through this. If I was you I'd be bracing myself for the worst and if by some miracle all is ok then that would be a total bonus. Hugs x

Not exactly the same but mine was measuring12 days behind (should have been 7+5 but was measuring 6). There was heartbeat. I didn't have a follow-up up scan as this was a private one and they didn't offer more. No one was concerned at EPU to offer me one either. 4 weeks after the scan I miscarried naturally.
Sorry to say, but I'd expect the worst.😔

I'm sorry :( by size of 7 weeks you would expect a heartbeat.

yes, thank you everyone. It’s pretty obvious but I somewhat felt quite lost when I left the ultrasound clinic yesterday.

I’ve just had a MMC, there was a heartbeat at scan one but measuring 6+3 when I should’ve been closer to 8/9 weeks (unsure due to irregular periods). Second scan a week later showed no growth and unfortunately I opted for the medical management. In a way it was easier as I used the week to come to terms with the pregnancy ending so scan 2 wasn’t such a shock. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. If you opt for medical management just be aware it’s not just a period like they say, it’s extremely painful, I’ve since spoken to women who said labour was less painful. Be prepared at home for it with painkillers, I ended up in the bath tbh and the pain eased. It took 5 hours and then some cramping and after pains for a week or so.

@Magenta65so sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing your experience. I think I’d rather have a d&c but was told the wait is 2-3 weeks… it might all start naturally before then. I’m quite scared of losing a lot of blood etc, I’m border line anaemic.

hope you’re taking care of yourself! It’s so hard!

I'm so sorry, I went through this last year. During the wait between scans I started off not allowing myself to hope for a miracle and then spent the second half of the week convincing myself there'd been a mistake. Sadly the MC was confirmed. I opted for surgical removal, but it was a bank holiday weekend and by the time my appointment came round I'd miscarried naturally. For me the pain wasn't too bad - the worst of it didn't last very long. I had an emotionally traumatic experience when they looked to check whether the MMC was complete and had to remove the pregnancy sac manually. I'm sure that's rare but I guess its being aware it can happen.

I'm just so sorry, it's a horrible experience to go through. I found support on here, through ringing the miscarriage helpline and a book - I think it's called the worst girl gang ever.
