Hey,

I've just been prescribed cyclizine , has anyone taken this before, how did you get on with it? Was everything okay with your baby?

I’m unbelievably nauseous so I’ve asked my dr to help me as been as it’s been quite debilitating the last few days, I’ve not been able to work and only have relief laying down. Although I even woke up in the night yesterday feeling sick.

I’m really cautious about using medication but unsure what to do as I have a toddler and I really need to get back to work.

I've been on Cyclizine since 6 weeks (coming up to 12 now) and it's been a good send. I've only thrown up a few times and the nausea is still pretty bad but not as debilitating as it was. And when I've forgotten to take one I've been throwing up and feeling horrific so it's definitely helped loads!

I took it from 5 weeks until about 20 when it started to ease.
said baby is 9 and fine and dandy

Thanks both! That’s reassuring. Dr said that there’s not been clinical trials on the drug so she can’t say for sure if it’ll be okay

NHS website says it’s considered safe for pregnancy. I was very ill so took Xonvea which was a god send. DS is here and had no ill effects from it. When it comes to taking medication for pregnancy trust the medical professionals. Majority of medicines will have some warning against pregnancy on the package insert. That’s because it’s unethical to run clinical trials on pregnant women so they can’t say unequivocally it’s safe. However, doctors and midwives will have seen patients use both of these meds for years with healthy babies being born so it is considered safe. NHS website is a great source of info for this

Thank you! I’m so glad you found a medication that eased your symptoms and was safe. She said to use them as sparingly as possible and offered me the option of a sick note instead… So although nhs website says safe I almost feel a bit guilty about taking it after that conversation.

Honestly don’t feel guilty, feeling sick and not eating is worse than taking a medication. You should take it as you need it. I am not sure why she offered you a sick note as you don’t know when this will ease for you. Mine peaked around week 10 but didn’t go away completely until like week 14 or 15. Not sure about your work but mine would not have been too happy with me out for the best part of 3 months.

I am guessing this was a GP that prescribed this based on what you’re saying. TBH most GPs are afraid of pregnant women and errr massively on the side of caution. If you still need reassurance call the hospital and speak with a midwife.
