Movements at 23 weeks

I wonder if you could share your experience. I am 23 weeks (24 on Monday) and wonder what normal baby movements are. My baby seems to move around more in the evening when I sit down after work to watch TV. Sometimes he is very active and sometimes just a little bit (was very active earlier this week but less so for the last few days). And then whenever I wake up at night to go to the toilet or can't sleep (because of heat!) I can always feel some activity going on. However, during day time there's pretty much nothing at all. It doesn't matter what I drink or eat, walk around the baby is quiet. Is this normal or not??

I try to calm myself down by the idea that as long as I feel him every day I have nothing to worry about. But it does worry me and also the fact he was so active earlier this week and not so much now (could be heat related).

It would be great if you could share your thoughts please 🌸

I know there's unlikely anything that could be done at 23 weeks but wonder if it's worth getting seen for my own peace of mind. My next midwife appointment is not till early July so it's only another week to get through.

Sounds normal to me. I'm just a few days ahead of you and notice movements on pretty much the same schedule. Don't forget how small they still are - they can turn around and you won't feel the movements quite as much. My next appt is also early July.

I'm not sure how reassuring you'll find this (sorry!) but I'm 39 weeks and my baby sometimes has quiet days. Ice lollies, coffee, chocolate don't work for me at all 😬 I didn't settle into a pattern for bloody ages.

You should always get checked out if baby is quiet, even if you think it's just because it's hot/you're out of routine. And doesn't matter how far along you are. It probably won't be anything to worry about, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Don't wait until your next midwife appointment to be seen - I'd go to OAU tonight, get seen and they'll make sure you're okay. 😊 They won't think you're stupid, they won't think you're wasting their time.

I'm 25 weeks and I would say that movements in the last week have got much more pronounced. A couple of weeks ago if I was quiet and he was moving I could feel him but if I was busy doing stuff I couldn't.
It's only been in the last week that my partner has been able to feel movements if he put his hand on my bump.
I think he's moved position too as I was getting most of the movements in my bikini line area but now it's higher up

I went in around that stage for reduced movements. I can't remember now if they put me on the monitors or if it was just a heart beat check. But there definitely are things that can be done at 23 weeks if there is something wrong. Hopefully and most likely everything is fine, but they can keep you in for monitoring, do a scan etc if they suspect something is wrong, and in extreme extreme worse case scenario something is wrong babies can survive now around 23 weeks outside the womb, so always worth getting checked, even though in most likely scenario is that you are worrying over nothing.

The tracking movements thing during pregnancy has been my biggest source of anxiety, she's developed no pattern, and I frequently even now at 36 weeks have quiet days, I've been in 4 times in total for checks and I have no regrets, they encourage you to do this.

Baby will have a weird nocturnal instinct going on!
Baby will possibly sleep during the day and be awake at night which is what you may be able to feel.

with my last pregnancy this was my normal, apparently when we are moving it rocks baby to sleep and then when we are still that’s when baby can be more active. Unfortunately that’s often why when they come out they follow that sleep pattern 😂 if you are concerned always best to get checked though x

So just a bit of update. The baby decided to start moving a lot shortly after I have made this post. It was even moving my laptop as I leaned it on my bump while typing an email. So obviously that made me feel more at ease. However, today is a quiet day yet again. I could still feel it a bit in the morning, but it felt that he was doing something towards my spine and lower belly rather than right on my outer belly. I really wish he places himself in a way that I could feel the movements but obviously that's not up to me to decide. I think I will wait till tomorrow evening to see if anything changes and then give a call / go in.

Also I was so tired yesterday night I just felt asleep really quickly and slept pretty well throughout the night when he seems to be most active. So it might be that there was more movement but I simply didn't feel it this time. Even when I type this out I can feel some activity but quite low down and it feels it's towards spine. Plus my placenta is anterior so I can only feel movements on the side of my bump.
