Just want some positive stories, I booked an early scan yesterday, she mentioned a ‘sub-chorionic bleed superior to the gestation sac’ what does this mean?

she was able to see the sac, yolk sac and fetal pole.
measurement of the bleed is 13.4mm x 8.8mm.

I am the biggest worrier & now I’m in a huge panic.
please can someone reassure, give me some good stories & perhaps some light into what it means & if mine is classed as ‘big or not’.
im 6 weeks and 2 days. Very early.
ive had no bleeding this far, fingers crossed it stays this way.

thank you from a very anxious mum..

Hi, im sorry you're going through this.

I had a SCH the size of 59 x 19 x 61mm which is classed as a large haematoma.
I was bleeding for 6 weeks with it and ive finally stopped.
I still have a viable pregnancy, and currently 18 weeks.

Some can cause a miscarriage, whereas some don't.

Id say yours is classed as possible medium SCH, If you're not happy with what they said at the scan definitely get a second opinion from a medical professional.

Some haematomas dont bleed out, they can be reasorbed back into the body.

Sounds like everything is going ok!

Trust me this turns out well but it might not sound like it to start. Bled a bit at 6+3 ish and was checked as I was also high risk for an ectopic. Bled again at 7+2 but lost a lot of blood, a lot, massive clots the length of my middle finger ended up being seen in the middle of the night by a consultant gynae because I couldn't stop bleeding. Nothing in the clots other than blood.

Back for scan 2 days later because it would probably be a trans-vaginal scan so needed me to have stopped bleeding. They managed to see everything on a normal scan and I had a SCH which had grown in less than 48 hours to greater than half the size of my uterus. Because of the size, the speed at which it had grown and the amount of blood I lost I was put on complete bed rest. No lifting my toddler, no walking, no sex, no orgasms allowed either until my 20 week scan! I was a sahm though so not working. Was it easy? No. Was it worth it? Yes. That baby is now in his late teens.

The medical research says rest as much as possible, do as little as you can. If that is possible for you then definitely do that.

@HooverThatLounge gosh sounds like you had a rough time! Sorry you went through that. im glad I’ve had no bleeding so far, praying it stays that way.
im going to rest as much as i can, very hard because i have a 2 year old, im also breastfeeding him still.

I also have a 5 year old, but luckily i can rely on the car to take him.
thanks for your advice - you’ve eased me a lot. Glad it worked out for you :)

@LER2023 sorry you went though that, glad your little one is ok and growing! It’s such a worry isn’t it, she was congratulating me on my pregnancy and told me not to worry. But on the other hand she’s mentioned a bleed, so my anxiety is through the roof.. praying my body just absorbs it ! :)

@ThatLoyalBlueHare I was told I have two of these (one above the embryo, one below) and I’m measuring 6w5. Did some quick googling and mine classify as small. I was seen by nurse after the scan who explained that they can be reabsorbed but also that if I start spotting (pink or brown), this will likely be the reason but doesn’t necessarily mean a MC. They are bringing me back for another scan in 2 weeks to monitor. I’m definitely a worrier since I’ve had a MC and MMC before but for some reason feeling somewhat relaxed about the SCH. I’m trying to tell myself that my body will do the right thing. Sending love!

@appleboat7 nice to have someone in the same situation as me currently .. never heard of it before, so I panicked.
im going to book another scan in 2/3 weeks just to reassure myself.
Seeing a midwife next week for my booking appointment so going to mention it then.
just a worry isn’t it..

@ThatLoyalBlueHare likewise and yeah I completely get it it’s never nice to hear. My sister in law had spotting throughout all her pregnancy and now has a healthy 9 months old so I guess knowing that (and the comments above!) is giving me hope. Definitely a good idea to have a chat with your nurse/midwife about it! How are you feeling otherwise?

ThatLoyalBlueHare · 19/06/2025 12:43

@appleboat7 yes I agree, I’m feeling more hopefully than I was. Otherwise just feeling exhausted.. feeling sick but not being sick. Which is a change: my other 2 I was sick throughout and really poorly. Don’t have it easy . How have you been? :)

I had this, can’t remember what size it was but it was classed as a haematoma. I started bleeding very early, pretty much when my period was due so assumed it had been a chemical pregnancy (I’d tested early and got a positive). I bled so much it didn’t even occur to me to test again as I thought there’s no way I can still be pregnant. First pregnancy, so was very clueless and just thought I’d wait it out and try again. Did everything you’re not meant to, such as having a glass of wine while sitting in a hot bath (thinking I wasn’t pregnant).
After about a month of bleeding (again, clueless to have left it so long) I thought I’d better go to the doctor and it turned out I was still pregnant, then they diagnosed the haematoma. Bled for over two months but eventually stopped. My “chemical pregnancy” is starting school this year so all was well.

@ThatLoyalBlueHare both tiredness and nausea are a lot more manageable vs previous pregnancy, hope it stays this way. BO is pretty bad this time around though (sorry TMI 😂)
@SoonToBeArtStudent wow, love to hear this. hopefully if babies are meant to stick they do🤞🙏

ThatLoyalBlueHare · 19/06/2025 14:43

@SoonToBeArtStudent wow.. this has really reassured me. Thank you & I’m glad it went well for you. Luckily had no bleeding. I’m just an over worrier..

update - I was really reassured by my community midwife and sonographer who did my private scan.
so I’m feeling much more relaxed - they classed it as a small one, which is reassuring & really reassured me about it all. 😊

I had a horrible bleed at 9 weeks, no bleed since then, and it had gone by the 20 weeks scan. I continued working etc but tried not to over do it. I also drank pomegranate juice, no idea if it did anything, but heard it could help.

I’ve bled from 6-13 weeks due to a SCH and a one off bleed at 15w. the size and position of the SCH will tell you more about how risky it is to the baby. If it’s above the sac and larger than the sac then there’s a risk of it taking the pregnancy with it as it bleeds.

mine was small/‘medium and next to the sac, which was bigger than the bleed. Baby fine and I’m 20w now.

hope all has progressed ok for you.

pumpkinpatches22 · 21/06/2025 22:03

@ThatLoyalBlueHare I am currently 23+2 weeks and I was told I had an SCH at my early 7 week scan. Can’t remember the measurements now it wasn’t huge but it looked quite similar size to the sac at that early stage to the point where people kept asking me if I was expecting twins when they saw the scan photos. I never bled from it apart from at 9 weeks I tripped over and 24 hours later I had a tiny amount of pink and brown spotting. I was seen by the EPU who said they could see the hematoma but it was resolving so think the fall just disturbed it a bit. Some resolve by bleeding out, some resolve by being reabsorbed.I never had any more spotting and by the 12 week scan it had completely gone. I was just sensible and probably over precautious, we didn’t have sex just in case, I avoided heavy lifting and didn’t do any strenuous exercise other than walking. I worried and have continued to worry about every little thing so I feel your anxiety. Hope you feel reassured xx
