Trapped on a boiling hot train

Hi All, first time poster on here! Apologies if this comes across as OTT, I am naturally a worrier. This is my first pregnancy and was through IVF, so a bit of a journey to get here!

Am 9 and a half weeks, and doing my commute home from work. The packed train abruptly stopped on the tracks (broke down) and it took them about 45 mins to get it started again. The train was absolutely boiling, with no air con and it was extremely uncomfortable. I had some water and was fanning myself. I just wanted hopefully some reassurance that this shouldn’t have done my baby damage, I have googled about raising core body temperature when pregnant (never a good idea!!) and it did worry me. But then I think that people have babies in warm climates all the time with no issues and must encounter hot trains etc. Please could anyone share their experience / put my mind at rest? Thank you x

You are right on both counts. It can be dangerous to a baby if you overheat too much, but it's unlikely that you would get to that point in England even on such a hot day, and women in much hotter countries than this have babies regularly. Try to stay calm. Stressing about things raises your cortisol level which is definitely less good, so trust your body and assume that all is well.

Your body does a really good job if stabilising your core temperature. Yes you felt hot, you were red, you were sweating, but that's how your body keeps your core temperature regulated.

When you see things saying about high body temperature, it's things like high grade fevers which is why it's important to get flu vaccines etc in pregnancy

Sounds disgustingly sweaty but that’s your body doing it’s job and keeping your body temp where it should be. And as you say women in countries far hotter than the UK have healthy babies and a/c is a relatively recent invention.

Ok thank you all, that’s very helpful and reassuring 😊

In Finland where it is normal to use saunas throughout pregnancy there is no rise in birth defects.

The advice about temperature is due to caution and from an association with temp rises due to flu which is obviously quite different

Oh interesting! Thank you @ADreamIsAWishYourArseMakes ☺️
