Fatigue in 2nd trimester

Hi all,

23 weeks pregnant and feeling so useless at the moment. Fatigue has come back with vengeance last couple of weeks and I have achieved very little this weekend. Have small bursts of energy for half an hour then I'm exhausted and emotional because I know how much I should be doing. Feel like such an awful mum to my 2.5 year old as I haven't really done anything except play in the house with her this weekend. Work full time as a teacher (2 weeks till holiday thank goodness-in Scotland) and at the moment can't imagine going back for 6 weeks in August!

Sorry for the moans, just wondering if anyone has felt this way second trimester as I don't remember this first time round!

Thanks x

Could have written this myself! 21 weeks, teacher in the south of Englanf and have a 2 year old! I was pretty ill and useless in my first pregnancy due to HG, but don't remember this level of ineffectiveness!

I'm slightly less ill this time round (only due to getting medication really the early), but I still feel exhausted and ill most of the time. Apart from the heat at the moment, I'm putting it down to having a toddler to keep up with!!! They're not to be underestimated, the amount of physical, mental and emotional energy they require to parent them.

If it helps, I've heard from a lot of people that it gets easier once the baby is here - toddler + pregnant is harder, apparently! I'm holding on to that!

Know exactly how you feel- currently 17 weeks pregnant and constantly exhausted (the first trimester fatigue still hasn’t worn off… I’m thinking it’s here for the duration! 😬) but also teaching full time and feel like I don’t have enough energy for my 3 year old. I just keep telling myself women have managed before me and if they can do it, so can I! It helps slightly at least!

Being pregnant with a toddler is the absolute pits. All stages are terrible. I'd agree, once the baby arrives and you can bung them in a carrier and chase after your toddler as normal it's much easier.

Thank you for your replies ladies.
I'm finding the constant guilt hard. Not really being great at anything- mum, wife, friend, daughter, teacher 🙈. My husband did pretty much everything today on Father's day as I was still wiped from work. I'm not class committed after the summer, working on assessments etc (thank goodness) but means I've had a good few late nights in work trying to pack up my classroom. Just that guilt and the brain/heart Vs body battle! X

I could’ve written this myself. But thank you OP for making me feel like it’s normal! I’m absolutely exhausted. Took DD for a lovely day out for Father’s Day. DD spent most of it tired and tantruming. I’ve got awful PGP and spent most of the time sitting on the floor in the shade with her trying to get her to calm down, or carrying her when she refused to walk or let daddy carry her. Pelvis is in bits and I’m shattered. Got another 3 months of this and it’s only going to get harder. It’s getting to the point where I don’t dare leave the house with her when I’m on my own as I physically struggle to manage her and then feel so guilty keeping her cooped up all day.
Looking forward to the baby arriving to at least have DH around for paternity leave to help with her day-to-day.

26 weeks pregnant with my second and a two year old too and oh my am i exhausted!! We also didn’t do much over the weekend as the tiredness has completely run me over although I did get a phone-call from my midwife to say that my iron is extremely low again so that’s probably why tbh lol I had that the first time round with my ds so no surprise it’s happened again 🫠also work fulltime as a dental nurse so I’m on my feet 8 hours a day 5 days a week standing and bending over in a hunched position all day is not good either. Perks of my job is I cannot work as a dental assistant past 28 weeks due to the chemicals used so from 28 weeks to maternity leave it will be admin work at a desk and I cannot wait for it😂
