I am nearly 35 weeks pregnant and TMI have just noticed I’m wet through. I’m now worried my waters are trickling. If this has happened to you did you have any other symptoms or pains etc? I am about to shower and will put a pad in to keep an eye. I have been feeling light headed on and off the past few days, tired and nauseous. Haven’t noticed any change in baby’s movements. TIA

It's been quite warm today could it be sweat? I had one day with my daughter when my knickers were quite wet but it was a hot day I briefly panicked about my waters. I changed my knickers and but a cloth between me and the fake leather seat I was sat on and I was then bone dry.
I'd check 30-60 minutes after changing and having a shower and if you suspect you are leaking get checked out. I'd have a really low bar for reaching out, they'd rather see you and it be nothing than not seeing you and you need seeing.

My waters went with my daughter before labour but at term. I had a dull sharp ache in the afternoon and after that my previously very taut bump went squashy. My waters went TV style at midnight.

Coffeeishot · 14/06/2025 18:06

I felt a bit fluey before my waters broke i had my youngest at 35 weeks. I'd ring the midwife/hospital just to keep yourself right.

ShesTheAlbatross · 14/06/2025 18:10

I think it’s worth calling, seeing what they say.

Mine broke at 33 weeks - no other symptoms and just a very very slow trickle. It was fine though, I didn’t go into labour and was induced at 37 weeks.

Jay3004 · 14/06/2025 18:28

Mine went at 34 weeks with no other symptoms, contractions etc. and it wasn’t a full blown gushing like I’d been expecting. I called the hospital who advised me to put a pad on, travel up and then they can test the pad to check.

Disco2022 · 14/06/2025 18:36

Yeah call your maternity triage. I thought mine had broken at 20 weeks and they did a swab to check. Reassuring.
Although be warned, the swab involved using a speculum but they can't use an lubrication as it would get in the way of the swab. Wasn't the most comfortable, but obviously you need to know!

Turnoffthelight · 14/06/2025 18:38

Waters broke at 34 weeks, just drips, no other symptoms, went to hospital and dd was born very quickly 13 hours later!

zepherfan · 14/06/2025 18:43

Hey OP, give triage a call. They’ll probably want you to go in to test. I’ve had this test a couple of times, it’s really quick and easy - they take a vaginal swab and then it’s like a pregnancy test or a Covid test. They’ll know in minutes if it was your waters or not. I didn’t need a speculum unlike PP. They might even be able to test the fluid on the pad if there is enough.

SancerreSummerWine · 14/06/2025 18:44

I would ask to get checked. I felt a pop at 37 weeks when I sat up in bed, thought I had just farted(!), had some discharge later in morning, called and they said maybe it was a show. So I left it - but I went into labour that evening and when I got to hospital my waters had totally gone. They had been trickling away all day. Officially a term birth but he definitely looked early compared to my other babies.

harleq · 14/06/2025 18:44

Thanks all, I’m now panicking that it’s so early but also don’t want to waste hospitals time if it isn’t my waters. I’m sure this varies woman to woman but how quickly would a “trickle” show on a pad, from your experiences? I’d need to sort childcare if I need to go in so wondering how long to give it to be sure something is going on.

I'm sure they tested a pad it was years ago so its hazy but I can't remember being examined at first but the pad was swabbed.

Coffeeishot · 14/06/2025 18:47

RIng them now before it gets too late and you have to traipse in later on they will advise you.

Theunamedcat · 14/06/2025 18:47

Honestly I had no other symptoms but the midwife said the day before that i should pack my bag because it wouldn't be long

Give then a call you won't waste anyone's time

NewShoes1937 · 14/06/2025 18:48

Mine went full blown, like floodgates at 36 weeks. My child was born naturally 24 hours later...

NewShoes1937 · 14/06/2025 18:51

Second child, waters broke like floodgates the early hours of the morning while I was asleep. It was the day after their due date. Child was born 5 hours later!

Growsomeballswoman · 14/06/2025 18:55

Have you taken your blood pressure if you are light headed?

minipie · 14/06/2025 18:57

I had a leak like this at 34+0, wasn’t sure if it was a leak but was advised to come in for a check. Waters broke properly on the way to hospital. DD born that night.

I would suggest getting checked but also (unlike me) take your notes and bag!

minipie · 14/06/2025 18:59

PS my small initial leak was literally slightly wet pants, a bit like I’d wet myself a little. No other symptoms at all.

Have you taken your blood pressure if you are light headed?

I haven’t since my last midwife appointment a week ago. We were away last week and as it was on and off I’d sort of put it down to slight dehydration with the warmer weather until today. My parents have a blood pressure machine so was going to do it in the morning for peace of mind.

Thanks all, I really appreciate everyone’s replies. I am going to give it another 30 mins and check the pad.

Another vote for phoning the hospital. My waters went at 37wks. It was like a flood so never any doubt it was anything else but the hospital wanted me to go in and get it checked to make sure. Worth checking for peace of mind.

CrispAppleStrudels · 14/06/2025 19:20

My waters went with a big gush at 37+6w - i found that if I lay down on the bed for a time time and then stood up, i could feel a little gush each time. DD was born 24hrs later.

What i would say is if your waters have gone, be clear with them about a plan. We were left a bit too long, DD ended up with an infection (i didn't know I was GBS+, she needed NICU - all a bit unnecessarily stressful). If I'd been more prepared, I'd have wanted to know about antiobiotics to prevent infection and a plan for monitoring.

Good luck!

Greybeardy · 14/06/2025 20:01

they will get several calls a day for women with this story - it's literally what they're there for. It's important to talk to them because a) they can test to see if it does look like waters have gone and b) you'll need to discuss antibiotics +/- steroids with them if it does look like that's what's happened as well as making sure there are no other major issues with the pregnancy (eg breech baby etc).

PiggieWig · 14/06/2025 20:22

You can check your blood pressure on the My GP app. It does a scan of your face. Sounds weird but it’s pretty consistent with the cuff that the GP uses for me.

I knew about it when my waters went. It was a gush. It’s worth getting checked if you’re concerned.

cheeseandtomatobaguette · 14/06/2025 20:27

Mine went at 35 weeks, similar to another poster I felt wet, went to the loo and it was a big gush. Went in and was checked, definitely waters and was booked in for an induction a week later as it’s risky for baby to be without waters too long. I went into labour properly about 6 hours later and baby was born! Sending you good vibes 🩷

bk1981 · 15/06/2025 16:24

I had a small gush with no other symptoms. They didn't test to check but maybe because I was at term already. My midwife said I needed to be induced within 24 hours due to the risk of infection so please do give them a call.

Trallia · 15/06/2025 16:38

Had something similar at 36 weeks - was pretty sure it was a trickle of waters. Triage tried to tell me I'd probably weed, and then did a bit about turn "oh it is amniotic fluid and you're dilating" once they actually bothered to look rather than monitor me!

Then they bothered to read my notes, realised I had complications that made earlier labour likely, and a family history of it too, and it was all suddenly start antibiotics and we'll induce tomorrow!

Baby turned up on her own terms that evening. No forcible eviction for her!

Get yourself to triage...
