Dear all,
my fiancée and I are expecting our first child in September of this year. The pregnancy has been going well overall, with very low risk that the child will have Down Syndrome, it has a well-developed anatomy, etc.
However, early on during the pregnancy, the midwives and doctors found out that my fiancée's TSH hormone was approaching its high range limit (roughly 4 mIE/L, if I recall correctly). We don't recall the level of her T4 hormone at this point, but the doctors recommended treating her with a small dosage of Levothyroxine. They also confirmed that she didn't have hypothyroidism, but could develop it later on.
After taking the Levothyroxine, her T4 hormone stabilised at 13 pmol/L, while her TSH was decreasing.
However, my fiancée decided that she wanted to give birth in her home country, Mexico. When they recently tested her thyroid hormones, it was revealed that the T4 hormone had dropped drastically to 9 pmol/L (even though she continued to use the Levothyroxine). Also, her TSH value was reaching its lower limits. They use different units to measure the TSH and T4, but we were able to convert the T4 values.
She is approaching her third trimester, and we read that a lower T4 value can be expected. However, she left for Mexico only 20 days ago, and we are scared of the drastic change in her T4 hormone. We read that a low amount of T4 can affect the child's cognitive development.
We cannot approach the gynecologist until Monday. Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated.
