I’m about confused. My dr said they only say to take as a last resort but I don’t know why? I’m suffering from all over dermatitis and desperately need to try something but don’t want any risks. Has anyone used?

Purely anecdotal but I have hay fever and when I was prégnant my doctor said it's because ethically they can't test them on prégnant women so they can't say they are safe but he said the old ones (I think it was piriton, it was a long time ago) should be fine because in the past, there wasn't the same restrictions so prégnant women would have taken it and there is no évidence that it caused any problems.

I took it because my hayfever was unbearable but ultimately it was my choice.

I agree with @ChilliMum I took antihistamines from week 12+ because my hay-fever was awful. I'd tried all of the natural remedies and they didn't work. I was sneezing so much that I had muscular pain and I couldn't sleep due to symptoms.

The doctor couldn't confirm that it was safe but I felt that it was the right choice for me.

I always thought Loratadine was fine? NHS says it is.

My chemist wouldnt give me them without speaking to a doctor, rang GP and went and seen nurse who was hesitant and her system bought up warning messages. She spoke to the doctor who used the BUMPS website and told her to tell me to look it up. I was prescribed cetirizine and also looked up chlorphenamine which also said was safe to take.
Just Google BUMPS and then search a name of a medicine and it will tell you if its safe, or alternatives you can take.

I have hay fever and get dermatitis due to allergies and was consultant led in my second pregnancy. After suffering through without antihistamines with my eldest, I asked about antihistamines at my 12 week appointment for my second and they wrote a letter to my GP saying it was fine for them to continue to prescribe me fexofenadine throughout pregnancy. My youngest will be 2 in a few months and is perfectly healthy

Where was your dermatitis? Dr has changed his mind and is now saying it is pityriasis rosea. Just difficult to be confident in what this rash is.

Loratadine is OK.
