So I'm not a first time mum but it will be 5 years since my first child was born and I'm having a bit of a panic as I've completely forgotten a lot of things..

Like how soon do you bathe your newborn?! How often do they need to feed..how often do you change nappies

So reaching out to see if you could please share any recommended books etc

Dont worry you will remember. Just follow their lead.

Like how soon do you bathe your newborn?! When the umbilical cord falls off.
How often do they need to feed.. when they cry
how often do you change nappies.. when they wee/poo

The nappies with stripes that change colour can be good for getting into the swing of when to change them in the early days

I was the same with mine, I have 17, 10 and 2 and was panic stations for both younger ones, but it does come back! And the other thing is they are all different so what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another! But you do get back into the swing of it! Congratulations OP you'll be fine.

Goes to show how much of a blur it all is once it's over 😄

It will all come back you you, don't worry!

I think it mostly comes naturally. You’ll get to know your child’s needs quickly too. 5yrs isn’t that long I’m sure it will all come bk to you.

I read no books, went to no classes. Hadn’t changed a nappy before when I had my first so I had to learn quickly 😄

I was 17 when I had my first, had no experience with babies, my mum kicked me out and I was clueless and terrified but I got the hang of it with the help of my boyfriend's mum. We broke up when I was 19, and I had my 2nd baby abroad at 33, so 16 years later. It was fabulous, it all came back to me and it was so chilled, like having the first but knowing what I was doing. When I had the 3rd just 15 months later it was a different story however 🤣 Don't worry, you'll know xxx

You clean them when they’re a grubby or whiffy.
You feed them when they’re hungry.
You change their nappy when their current one is dirty.

Thanks for the replies everyone and your wisdom!.

I'm hoping it all comes back, I was suddenly thinking oh no how much milk do they need?! How often do they need changing

The first year of my daughter was a complete blur as I really struggled with what I now see was PPD/psychosis

My husband did a lot during the early days as I also had a caection so couldn't move very easily so I lost a lot of confidence during the newborn days

We change Nappies roughly every 2 hours but he's 10 months now, I have no idea how often it was at the beginning but pick a time and you'll come to learn how often he typically needs changing. Feeding just feed when he's hungry, it's very frequent at the beginning then it'll settle as time goes on. We bought a baby bath, we didn't bath him properly until he was 2 weeks. Until then just a little clean down. You'll know what to do, just as you did when you were brand new with your first! Xxx

At the moment NCT have a partnership with Peppa Pig which means they are offering refresher antenatal online courses for just a £10 booking fee. That might help reassure you and answer all your questions. Details of courses can be found here www.nct.org.uk/courses-workshops/nct-antenatal-refresher-course#book-course

I had a 5 and a half year age gap between mines and felt the same but trust me once they arrived it all come flooding back 😂 xx
