If my womb lining has thinned since ovulation, does this mean I have not conceived, or is there still hope?

I have been going through cycle monitoring and my womb lining was just over 11mm around ovulation, but a week later ( a week before my period is due) it is now just over 10mm. Does this mean I have not conceived, or is there still hope for me? TIA

Implantation usually happens around 9dpo, so if you are pregnant then likely the embryo has not yet implanted. Endometrial thickness does increase slowly once pregnancy starts, but exactly when following implantation you'd pick this up on a scan I have no idea.

Was it ultrasound? In pregnancy these have an inaccuracy margin of around 20% - does that apply to your scan too?

Thank you for responding.
yes, I had a scan done today at around 8 DPO where he mentioned that my wound lining had slightly thin since my last ultrasound at ovulation.

Once you ovulate, the follicle that released the egg sends signals to start producing progesterone. If there has been no implantation after approximately 10 days, your progesterone levels begin to drop and you start bleeding.

The progesterone hormone changes the texture of your womb lining and you can lose a couple of mm between ovulation and 7 - 10 days post ovulation. It’s perfectly normal and only of a concern if your womb lining was on the low side to begin with.

11mm at the point of ovulation is a perfectly decent and medically acceptable measurement so please don’t be concerned at all.

Thank you so much

How do you know this information?

I work in the medical field.

Thanks so much . Appreciate it . My sonographer said I am most likely not pregnant Because my levels dropped … is this wrong?

What levels have dropped?

Around a week after ovulation is too soon to know if you’re pregnant. It takes 5 days for a fertilised egg to travel into the uterus and another 2-3 days for the implantation process to take place. Even if implantation had recently happened on your recent scan, it wouldn’t be visible to a sonographer.

GG10 · 11/06/2025 07:33

He said my uterine lining had thinned which indicates most likely not pregnant (at around 7/8dpo)… and wants to put me on progesterone

Progesterone won’t do any harm but it might be beneficial to get your level tested around 7/8 dpo because if your levels are dipping too low, it could affect an ongoing pregnancy after implantation.

If you are struggling TTC, you could ask for the Clomid, ultrasound, trigger shot & progesterone protocol. This will need to be assessed and prescribed by a fertility consultant though. A GP will need to refer you if you’re UK / NHS based.

So my levels during ovulation were just over 11.2 i think and then around 7dpo they were around 10.4mm... ?

YoungMacDonald · 11/06/2025 16:23

Do you mean your progesterone level was 10.4 at 7dpo? If so, that implies you haven’t ovulated. Above 30 nmol/L is the benchmark for ovulation.

GG10 · 11/06/2025 16:26

my sonographer told me i had ovulated very well as he had seen a cyst from the ovary that had released an egg... he said my lining was around 10,4...?

Ok I misunderstood. We were discussing womb lining measurements and then moved on to talking about progesterone and have reverted back to talking about womb lining measurements.

As mentioned in my first reply, your womb lining is absolutely fine and would be considered thick
enough for implantation.

A decent early detection HPT will detect a pregnancy from around 10 - 11dpo so if you are keen to find out, take a test Friday or Saturday. Wishing you luck.

Thanks so much! Sorry, it's all so confusing! He said my ovary is producing progesterone nicely ... but my womb lining reduced so let's see! Thanks again
