19 weeks, no movements and crippling anxiety

I’m currently 19w,5d pregnant with my first child and I’m yet to feel any movements. I’m also slim (size 8) and feel that my bump is smaller than others who are just as far along. My anxiety is going crazy thinking something is wrong. I’ve had a first trimester miscarriage before so I know what it’s like being in the minority that has a pregnancy that doesn’t end with a baby. Anybody in a similar situation? 🙁. Any reassurance would be greatly appreciated! My next scan is just under a week away and on the one hand it can’t come quick enough and on the other I’m petrified.

You could easily have an anterior placenta and not feel a thing and everything be totally normal. Fingers crossed for you x

Edenmum2 · 08/06/2025 22:17

I didn’t feel movements until about 21/22 weeks. I also had multiple losses before my healthy DD was born and the first half of the pregnancy was riddled with anxiety. After the 20 week scan I made an effort to try and enjoy it and relax a bit. I know it’s hard. I was stressing too but 19 weeks is still super early for movement. Have you had your 20 week scan?

JollyDreamer · 08/06/2025 22:20

Thank you. My 20 week scan is in just under a week

It’s very common to not feel them until later in first pregnancies. Try not to worry. Statistically it is highly likely (97%) that everything is fine and you will have a live birth. Hope your scan goes well.

cherrycola66 · 08/06/2025 22:30

I actually didn’t feel any movement until around 25 weeks, even after that she never moved as frequently as some people described. Don’t panic

Francine84 · 08/06/2025 22:49

I had an anterior placenta and didn’t feel anything that I could say with 100% certainty was the baby’s movements until about 22 weeks. And I didn’t have a proper bump until around 25 weeks when it just appeared overnight!

I know it’s such an anxious time but try not to worry, it will all be OK!

I'd advise going to triage to get checked out they can do a bedside scan regardless I felt my baby move at 18weeks don't let anyone fool you. You know your body and your baby hun

The OP doesn’t have a change in movements, she hasn’t felt any. This is totally normal at 19 weeks, especially with first babies.

That's true but given her history I would hope midwives/GP are sensitive and helpful and refer to epu tomorrow or Tuesday.

I'm sure all is fine @JollyDreamer but think some reassurance sooner rather than later would be good.

Jigglypuff33 · 08/06/2025 22:58

Do you know where your placenta is? I had an anterior placenta with my first and definitely hadn't felt much of anything by 19 weeks. I think this is normal. Try not to worry, you will have your 20 week scan soon

Totally understandable yes this is true but if she feels something doesn't feel right alongside movements then I'd go to get checked just for a peace of mind better than stressing

ScMTB · 09/06/2025 06:54

20 weeks here and haven't felt anything yet. Also first after multiple miscarriages. I was told at dating scan not to worry if not felt anything by 20 week scan, totally normal.

PurpleTurtleMoose · 09/06/2025 07:37

I was exactly the same (and actually made a similar post!). I'm petite with a posterior placenta so everything I read told me I would feel movements earlier, but I didn't feel anything until about 23 weeks. I've had losses in the past too so was going out of my mind with worry.

The movements did come though, and they will for you too 💕 I'm now 28 weeks and all good so far. Xx

Superscientist · 09/06/2025 09:01

I hadn't really felt much movement in both my pregnancies at 20 weeks and those I did i wasn't sure if they were movements or digestion. I'm a size 8 too, I'm now 24 weeks with my second and I'd say it's the last couple of weeks I've noticed more clear movements. There's so much space in there at this point they can do loads of wiggling without you realising. On my 20 weeks scan I could see him moving and wiggling all over the place but felt nothing.

I'm pregnant after loss too, check out the due November after loss thread there's quite a few women there in similar situations, not all due in November. I think the current spread is between 12 and 24 weeks pregnant. I've found them really supportive

Peacepleaselouise · 09/06/2025 09:04

I hadn’t felt any movement at that stage and had an anterior placenta. But you can ring your midwife for advice.

WhiteBluebells · 09/06/2025 09:36

She's got a scan in less than a week, she is better off waiting for the scan.
It's also her first pregnancy, I didn't feel movement until 18 weeks with mine and even then they were only light flutters easily missed.
It's normal not to feel movement yet, wait until the scan and see what they say.
Even if there was anything wrong at this stage there's nothing they can do before 24 weeks.

Groundhogday2025 · 09/06/2025 09:38

It’s still early for movement, don’t worry. Baby will be moving around, which you will see at your scan but you won’t necessarily feel it, especially with your first pregnancy. With DD I didn’t feel anything until about 20-21 weeks, and even then it was a “was that the baby?” type of feeling and that was with a posterior placenta too. I’ve felt movement much earlier with this second pregnancy but I think a lot of that comes from knowing what it feels like too. Plus baby is most active late at night for me, and if I was asleep I could easily miss it!
Have your scan and once you have that reassurance try to relax. I look back at my first pregnancy and just feel like I wasted so much time stressed unnecessarily.

JollyDreamer · 09/06/2025 12:04

Thank you so much for all your messages. I feel reassured reading them and counting down the days for my scan. Hopefully this will put my mind at ease and I can start to enjoy this pregnancy. I will keep you all updated!
Edit: I also called the midwife who said it’s fairly normal to not feel movements at this stage so not to worry.

I'm sure everything will be fine lovely, once the anomoly scan is done at 20 weeks you will probably feel a lot more reassured that all is well with the pregnancy.
Fingers crossed.
