Bright spot on ultrasound. No black bit

So,

I’ve been going back and forth the early pregnancy unit for just over a week.

Unsure of last period dates. Could be barely 2 weeks pregnant. I honestly don’t know. Clinic is thinking 8 as that was definitely when I had my last period but have had bleeding etc since.

Had multiple (4) ultrasounds, couldn’t see anything.

Today however, they’ve seen a ‘bright section/ blob’ but there’s nothing in it. No black bit, not sac etc. It’s just a bright round bit I guess.

Could this be the pregnancy? Can it develop into having a sac?

Nurses are trying to get me to terminate, and something is telling me it’s just too early.

Any advice at all, would be much appreciated.

Going back in the morning to see the specialist.

Feel like I’m grasping at straws. I just don’t know what to do.

When did you get a positive pregnancy test?

Guant · 09/06/2025 13:26

There’s technically no such thing as 2 weeks pregnant. Because all pregnancies are dated from last period. And women are definitely not pregnant when you’re on your period. It’s just how they do it. Even if you don’t have/know your last period you still add two weeks on from conception to get your official date. So the minimum you will likely be is 4/5 weeks pregnant.

As the PP said when did you first get a positive pregnancy test? Why are you being seen at the EPU in the first place was it due to pain or bleeding?

In the cases of missed miscarriage which I think (?) is what they suspect you of having, normally the options are to wait and see if it happens naturally, medication or surgery. Unless they are worried about ectopic I would imagine they would be happy to let you wait a few weeks and then re scan. They forced me to wait 2 weeks in my case even though I knew exactly my dates and knew it wasn’t a viable pregnancy.

Hi,

thanks for your replies. Vv faint positive on the 16th May. They’re suspicious of an ectopic. I went in for bleeding.

went in yesterday, and saw another doctor, they’ve agreed to let me wait it out, I’m going back in a week for I assume another scan and more bloods, not sure.

So by that positive test date you need to be at least 5 weeks pregnant (and few days) It’s still very early so it wouldn’t be unusual a week ago to not see much so it’s worthwhile waiting to see how it goes so it’s good they are doing that.

Did they say what your HCG levels were?

At this point though all you can really do is wait it out. But I think in a week if they still can’t see much it won’t be good news as by then you’ll be over 6 weeks.

@SKC1237777 doesn’t look good. By now a gestational sac should be seen. Whatever the white blob was it’s not pregnancy because first the gestational sac (black circle) appears and then the yolk sac and fetal pole follow shortly after. Last week you should’ve been at least 6 weeks a long if we say the day you got a faint positive was 3 weeks pregnant which is unlikely and you should be closer to 7 weeks.

Hcg levels were 4177 at last count. I think if they don’t see anything next week, will definitely not be anything happening anytime soon, as will be 6 weeks by then. So will just have to see what happens next week I guess.

thank you for your replies :)

Ended up being ectopic. Found yesterday, and had surgery to remove the left tube as pregnancy had settled there. Reviving now, will try again when ready. Thank you all for your replies
