First one I stayed two nights but obviously keen to get home to DC1 asap this time - is 1 night realistic? How long did you stay in hospital? I know it'll depend on complications etc but trying to get an idea of possibilities.

First was also planned but due to medical issues, this one planned as don't fancy vbac.

8 nights but I'm in Switzerland and 5 nights is standard minimum for c sec, had extra nights as my son wasn't well. I don't know how anyone only stays 1 night, and personally think it's appalling.

That's so interesting, I love the differences in systems! I'm in Australia and if I could have stayed one night I would have been out like a shot, three days was bad enough. Hospitals are awful, the food is dire, and laying on a hard plastic mattress is the pits. All you really do is sit around in a hot noisy ward and get food / meds passed to you occasionally, so might as well do that at home with people that care for you on a comfy sofa.

When I went home a midwife popped in to check on me every day for a week and I had her number to call / text if I was worried about anything, maybe that's the difference between staying in hospital and early discharge.

@brunchylunchymunchies I hear alot of women say the same thing in the UK, that they couldn't wait to leave but Swiss healthcare is incredible. I was very happy to stay in the hospital. There was almost 1 to 1 ratio of midwives to patients/mums. You only share a room with 1 other person, and a bathroom between the 2 of you. Everything you need for the baby is provided including all Petit Bateau clothing. Food was lovely!
Midwives were really kind and supportive. On the 4th day my son had to go to neo natal care and they were brilliant. They also then moved me to a private room so I wasn't disturbed by the other mum and her baby.
Post natal care I had 16 visits from a midwife over 2 months. Then pelvic floor rehabilitation- 10 sessions. And when you leave hospital you get a small gift bag including a voucher for free entry to a thermal pool complex - lovely!

During my second trimester I discovered I had a rare autoimmune diseases which impacted pregnancy and baby. In my 32 years of living in the UK it had never been picked up despite their being signs. Had I been sent home after a day or 2 like the UK I doubt they would have picked up that my baby was ill (showed no visible signs and only picked up via blood test) so I am really thankful for being in the hospital.

Depends when they take the catheter out and you’re able to walk properly as a bare minimum.

I stayed 2 nights but wish I could have stayed at least a week to get breastfeeding established and to have the care of midwives for longer.
