I want to get it because having a winter baby with a toddler in nursery… but I’m anxious as it’s fairly new in the UK. So wondering how others feel about it, or if anyone has really researched it? I’m going to do some research when I get a moment to!

I had it with this pregnancy (wasn’t offered when pregnant with DC1 1.5years ago). I believe it’s been around in lots of other European countries for many years. I jumped at the chance to have it after reading about all the poor little bubbas who caught RSV. Didn’t have any ill effects after the vaccine x

Hi! I am TTC number 2 at the moment and will definitely be getting it. When my DS was 14 months old he spent 3 nights in hospital with RSV and it was absolutely horrible - I can't imagine if he had been loads younger and smaller and had had it!

I will be getting it.

My son got RSV at 2 weeks, before the vaccine was available, and he's only really now got over the after-effects aged 7. He's been dangerously ill several times.
Honestly, run don't walk to get the vaccine.

Someone has really researched it - the public health experts who allowed it to be rolled out. In a country with free at point of delivery healthcare, they’re not rolling things out if they don’t work in a meaningful way (ie they mean kids get less poorly & require less intervention, thus saving nhs money). It wasn’t available with my first but had it with my second & grateful it was available. Having seen DD1 and DH both have whopping cough, and how different it was because DD was recently vaccinated (through me in pregnancy) and DH hadn’t been since childhood, I will take any opportunity to avoid a respiratory illness for my children.

I will absolutely be getting it this time and would’ve got it before if it was available during previous pregnancies.

RSV is unbelievably dangerous for small babies. The vaccine is fairly new in the UK but it has been around for a long time in other countries.

Thanks all - I’m very pro vaccines but new ones make me nervous when it’s to do with my unborn baby but I will be getting it as remember how scared I was with RSV for my first. Thanks everyone

It's not a new vaccine, it has been around for a long time. There has been a huge increase in the number and severity of RSV cases in the UK in the last few years, which is why it was decided to provide it to pregnant women as a prevention method - and if there's any way to avoid giving a vaccine to a tiny baby, I would rather take the hit myself.

As another poster said, they have been providing it routinely in other European countries for many years.

In terms of side effects, I was told it is an 'old-style' vaccine, whereby they don't inject any of the actual disease into you, it's just the antibodies, so you shouldn't have side effects.. I just had a really achy arm!

My baby was hospitalised at 5 months with RSV. Absolutely would get it.
