Baby is flipping between transverse and breech at 36 weeks

Can anyone help in so worried my baby is flipping between transverse and breech the past week I’m now 36 weeks plus 4 days.
he was head down at 33 week scan
I have read that you should
be admitted for observation for risk
of Cord prolapse but my hospital / midwife haven’t suggested that and just said if I go into labour go straight to hospital. I’m worried that I should be in hospital now.

That sounds frightening - haven't been through this, but I'd call midwife/triage and explain what's going on. If you really feel there's something wrong, they should listen and sort it out for you (scan/whatever you need). Hope it all works out ❤️

I would phone them up to ask. Or just turn up for monitoring if you’re worried. DD2 was head down at 32 weeks but then at my 36 week scan they spent ages deliberating whether she counted as breach or transverse. They decided on breach in the end but she certainly looked transverse to a lay person on the screen! And it was hugely uncomfortable - I was sent round for monitoring because of the pain and they thought I might be in labour! Actually my waters did then go the next day and I was admitted as an emergency and about to have emergency c section when the doctor realised she’d turned again and was now head down!

Irrelevant to you but all a bit dramatic at the time! But I would definitely talk to them again if you’re unsure.

Dd2 turned from transverse to head down around 37 weeks. They don't tend to admit until 37/38 weeks if she is transverse or unstable aa yours is, going transverse to breech 😊

buillonrouge · 04/06/2025 21:05

I was admitted at 36 weeks when my son was unstable lie. I had planned CS at 37 weeks.

Onemoremakesthree · 04/06/2025 21:09

Is it baby number one or a subsequent? With DS3 I was admitted at 37 weeks for one (looooong) week (until stable head down) because of this, when I went in to have him midwife was surprised they were so cautious with a number 3, she wouldn’t have expected him to settle down until 38ish weeks

Anyadvicewelcom · 04/06/2025 22:05

Thank you everyone
it’s baby number one for me!
worried that there is a reason he is breech/ unstable ? Can some babies just be that way. Im gonna call midwife again and ask about the admission but not sure they do that in uk?

Is this in the Uk? Thanks @WhatMe123

My first baby was breech until 37 weeks and I got her to turn by finding the advice on www.spinning babies.com, which I did for a couple of weeks then I went for a longish walk one day and felt her suddenly flip over. I would have a look at the website and give it a go, it won't do any harm and might help.

WhatMe123 · 04/06/2025 22:11

Yes uk @Anyadvicewelcom it was 4 years ago when pregnant with dd2 she turned one night. I'd been doing lots of sitting in my birth ball, wide pelvis to allow her space and she did turn spinning babies website has a lot of information on breech/transverse. Inwas told to not slouch, and to sit on ball as much as possible as wide pelvis allows them the space to put their head down

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 04/06/2025 22:13

My second was a transverse unstable lie, I was admitted as soon as this was discovered (am in the UK), but I was already 40 weeks at that point anyway. Baby turned head down and was born naturally the next day 🙃 You're not alone though - there have been a couple of other threads recently, I'll link you so you can read everyone's experiences!

Sick with worry about cord prolapse - hand held needed | Mumsnet

I’m 36 weeks pregnant, with Mild excess fluid and baby with an unstable lie. I know the chances are low of a cord prolapse, but it was mentioned today...

I'm in the UK and with my first was admitted at 37 weeks for 2 weeks before a planned c section date (for other medical reasons) because of transverse lie. This time, baby transverse again but they have let me go home as long as I am within 5 mins drive of the hospital and straight in. I would just have low threshold for going in if you feel labour starting

Cjsguie5 · 05/06/2025 17:17

I was admitted this week with a transverse baby. Had been head down the whole time until 37 + 4. In my trust, they admit you at 37 weeks as a precaution. And offer you an ECV from 37 weeks.
