Do I have gestational diabetes

Hi,
My midwife says I need to go for GD test around 28 weeks before of FH. I tested mg fasting bloods this morning at work which was 5.9 and then 5.6 this was nearly 3 hrs after waking but having nothing apart from water. Does this mean I am going to have it I’m only 11 weeks just now so 28 weeks feels a long time time to wait and I’m stressing about what this could mean for baby. Thank you

Hard to say without consistent readings and a GTT. Its not hugely out of range but higher than the GD targets, nonetheless. I would reach out to your Midwife for advice as a first priority.
Take it upon waking if possible. And then eat a balanced meal sooner after waking (If you're not too sick atm) and see what the post meal readings are also. But just to reiterate, contact your Midwife either way.

I had GD in my first pregnancy and was tested at 24 weeks. I am currently pregnant with my second baby and I got tested for it at 16 weeks and I have GD again. Fasting over 5.2 could possibly be an indication for GD, however, you won’t know unless you do your GTT. You’re at risk if you have a family history of diabetes, high bmi, if you’re south asian, if you’re pre diabetic etc (unfortunately I tick all the boxes lol).

During my first pregnancy I was on metformin, had regular scans and I gave birth to a 5lb 12oz baby girl. However, for my second pregnancy I’m on metformin and insulin as my fasting is always over 5.2 and as long as you have stable readings (fasting and post meals) for the remainder of your pregnancy, have a balanced diet there isn’t much impact on the baby so don’t be worried! Baby will be tested at birth for low blood sugar and if you have GD you will have regular growth scans to see if baby is either far too big or too small for their gestational age.

You could ask for an early GTT if you're concerned? Your fastings should really be done as soon as you wake up so the numbers you have today might not be the most accurate, but they are considered high in pregnancy.
