Non specific Antibodies at 28 week bloods

I received a referral for follow up bloods after my 28 week appt with no background info on the letter
. I queried this with the Dr at my next scan and they said it was due to non specific Antibodies being found and usually they're no issue but if so I'd be referred to the fetal medicine team.

I had my follow up bloods today and the nurse said we'll be in touch in a few days as they have to go to another trust to be tested. I thought this was a bi strange as usually they only say they'll be in touch if needed? I might be over thinking it.

Anyway, should I be worried, there's such little info out there other than anti D. Anyone had any experience with this and what was your outcome?

I wouldn't worry unless they come back with something significant on the retest. It does happen that you develop non specific antibodies in response to pregnancy, and they'll often have no clinical significance. I wouldn't overthink the nurse saying they'll be in touch, as since you've had an 'abnormal' result it would be necessary to receive a call either way with the next results. Either to tell you it's nothing of significance and no further action required, or next steps if necessary. Hoping you hear soon and all turns out to be fine.

Thank you, as a first time pregnancy there's a whole lot I didn't know about especially if it's outside of the "normal" things you hear or what others have experienced!

One common example I can think of is CMV (cytomegalovirus). I was called back in around 30weeks for the same reason because they found antibodies for CMV but weren't certain whether it was an infection before or during pregnancy. They did more bloods and it turned out to be from before pregnancy. The majority of people have had CMV so that wasn't surprising but the initial antibody test was borderline.

There's a whole bunch of viruses and antibodies they test for so it could be anything. However the chance they pose a risk for the baby is very tiny, even if the infection was during pregnancy. Some might only require follow up care like an extra checkup for the baby after birth.

Absolutely, pregnancy is a minefield! We don't often hear of the more unusual things, because thankfully they're not as common. Let us know how the next results turn out if you feel up to it. And forgot to say earlier, congratulations!😊

Thanks all. Had my next Dr's appt at the end of last week. It was warm and cold antibodies that were found. Dr said shouldn't be anything to worry about. From what I could see on the screen I think the cold type seem to be insignificant. He did advised that the haemotologist had noted that I've to have repeat bloods done again, assuming to make sure all is OK.
