Tinzaparin from 28 weeks

I'm 28 weeks today and due to start tinzaparin - daily injections from now until 6 weeks after baby arrives. Having some anxiety about starting these and wondered if anyone can share their experiences?
I've never had a clot myself. I'm 38. My mum has had 2 dvt's and this is why it's been prescribed. Nothing has been explained to me in terms of side effects, benefits (other than preventing a clot) or how this might impact the rest of the pregnancy or the birth?
My Midwife is due to see me tomorrow to give the first injection so I will ask her but I'm worrying that I'm having to take these when it might cause a lot of extra complications.

I have not been on that specific brand but took Daltaparin injections daily from 7 weeks of my most recent pregnancy and need to take them until 6 weeks post partum too. During pregnancy it was to support placenta due to previous full term stillbirth and placenta issues in the subsequent pregnancy and I’ve had to take them since baby was born as there’s an increased risk of clots having been on them for so long. I’ve had no issues at all. Baby was born by section so I didn’t take them the day before and everything went fine.
Good that you have a midwife appointment to discuss the risks and benefits. Hope you can work out what’s best to do 😊

@river29 thank you so much for replying and for sharing this. I'm so sorry to hear of your previous stillbirth. I'm glad everything went fine with your recent section! Can I ask if you had to have a section because of the injections? Or was it for other reasons? I'm reading of other women that had to be induced early because they were on the blood thinner injections and now worrying I've not had that explained to me yet.

Thank you. ❤️
I had a section with both of the pregnancies post loss and it wasn’t to do with the injections sorry so I can’t answer that. They said that you needed to have been clear of taking them for 12 hours or more pre having the spinal so unless it’s associated with options. Hopefully the midwife will be able to answer

@river29 thank you. Really appreciate you sharing your experience. I'm hoping the Midwife can put my mind at ease tomorrow!

Yeah same here, I was on it for my last two pregnancies, both my parents had blood clots, and I was on tinzaparin for several weeks after the births as well. Both normal delivery with no problems.
I found the injections stung like the devil though!

@Motherofalittledragon thanks for sharing! It's reassuring your deliveries were both with no problems. I've just had the first one and yes it stung so much! Did you do them in your tummy every day? I wanted to see if I could do them in my thigh but the Midwife is keen for me to continue in the tummy.

Know you didn’t direct question at me but I find them worse in the thigh than the abdomen.

Thanks @river29 ! I think I'll stick with the Midwife advice then and continue with the tummy. Have a very tiny little mark where she did today's one so will see how I do myself tomorrow! 🤞🏻

I did do them in my stomach, alternating sides.
