3 Weeks Pregnant and my Toddler has Chicken Pox

I’ve only just found out I am just over 3 weeks pregnant and my toddler has chicken pox that started appearing on Thursday. Should I be concerned. I’ve already had the chicken pox and it’s still so early I don’t want to overreact but I know it can be serious. Am I being silly to even worry about it.

If you have already had chickenpox, then you can't catch it again. A person who has not had chickenpox could catch it from people who have chickenpox or shingles. People who have had chickenpox can lead to develop shingles, but again it is not from being in contact with people who have chickenpox it is a reemergence of the virus and a development into shingles as a second step.

You are never being silly to worry , and being so early pregnant, you won't have a midwife to share your concerns with. If you need advice, maybe try and do an E consult with your doctor's surgery, or a telephone appointment. But I don't think you are at any risk if you know for sure you have already had chickenpox. Congratulations, I hope you stay well for your pregnancy. FlowersBrew

It should be fine I'd imagine. I think they'd only be concerned if you were almost ready to deliver as then the new baby would have a chance of catching it xx

Agree with this for this particular poster but just to clarify, it would be a worry in early pregnancy if OP had not had chickenpox and there are things to be done to reduce risk to Mum and baby in people who haven’t had it before (just in case others read this who haven’t had chicken pox before)

You can definitely catch chicken pox more than once. I know someone who have had it twice and it was definitely that as they ended up on hospital. Having said that it is rare and if you’ve had it then you should be ok. As another poster said, it could lead to shingles but that’s probably pretty rare too and often more vulnerable that are at a greater risk of shingles. Just check with your GP as that would give you the reassurance you probably need. You cannot do much about it as cannot avoid a toddler!

Definitely worth mentioning to GP / maternity team.
