Booked for my second CS in a few weeks. Trying to make sure I’ve everything I need. Has anyone anything they would recommend to make recovery easier both at home and in hospital? I feel like I’m forgetting stuff 😅

In my hospital bag I have:
Shower Gel/Shampoo/Conditioner
Deodorant
Toothbrush/Toothpaste
Face wash/creams
Hairbrush/Bobbles/Hair Claw
Washcloth
Hair & Body towel
Flip Flops/slippers
Nightie
Short PJ’s
Light dressing gown
Nursing bras x2
5x pairs of high waisted pants
Windeze
Maternity pads

Night before I plan on packing:
Phone charger
Hair dryer
Going home clothes
Water bottle with straw
Snacks
Non-fizzy juice

I also was going to take a nursing pillow in as with my DS I used a couple of hospital pillows to prop him up on my arm - did anyone else do this or am I best leaving it at home? I’m lucky that my hospital only has individual rooms so I’m not restricted on what I can take in with me.

Any tips on making it easier to get out of bed when I am home? I think I found this hardest last time. DH was a superstar but he’ll also have to entertain our DS this time round so I don’t want to be completely reliant on him as much as I know he’d always help lol.

Carefix c-section pants....they're expensive but amazing the only ones that felt comfy on my scar and held everything together.
After my second c-section I was sent home with a bottle of lactulose....definitely made a big difference so have one to hand if they don't prescribe it! And enjoy planned ones are amazing compared to emergency!! This is from someone who was heartbroken to be having a second c-section!!!

Lip salve, hospitals are always roasting

A sports type water bottle, so you can drink lying down.

Liquorice for the wind

Slip on shows, so you don't have to lean down.

Peppermint tea capsules. Start on them asap. The trapped gas pain in my ribs when I was 7 days pp was the worse thing of the whole process. I was screaming at 3am, never felt pain like it. Easily resolved with a few doses of the peppermint capsules though wish I had started taking them straight away to prevent it!

make sure your pp knickers are HUGE. I was so swollen after that the knickers I bought and tried on the week before I had him no longer fit once he was out as the swelling was so bad

Out of curiosity- how long ago did you have your child? I have read here on MN a few times about the gas pains (which I did have horribly as well) but my experience was very different - as soon as I complained I was medicated - and sent home with some. Just curious if I was lucky and your experience is the rule.

Hi there, I noticed that this is your 2nd CS so not quite sure how you would ask for this. I refused staples and had internal dissolving stitches, and just ONE single stitch externally. I was probably a bit mad as having twins, Twin 1 was breech hence the CS, as no room for Twin 2 to turn as well. Anyway I walked around the ward in between the sleeps and gradually stood up straight as the hunching over, as it is very sore, didn’t aid any recovery. I was 37 so classed as a geriatric mother! I honestly found my own rehab and was at a certain football ground 12 days after having my twins. Good luck 😊
PS high wasted knickers covering the scar helped loads too. Xxx

If you can try and get some compression pants or period pants. Compression pants help the scar and period pants are a god send.
Extra long charging lead is a must.
A pillow in the car for the journey home as every bump and turn is going to be uncomfortable.
Are you prepared for the blood thinning injections as generally you have then for either 10 days or 6 weeks or if you are really lucky you can get away with them.

I have compression pants from my first CS. They were a godsend. Made me feel less like my insides were going to fall out 😂 I’ve been on blood thinning injections for 12 weeks now. Can’t wait to be done with them 😅

I know my list seems long but after my first I thoroughly enjoyed my post birth shower. DH dried and straightened my hair for me and I felt instantly more human lol. I always think little things like skincare make all the difference in feeling somewhat normal 😅

In addition to the long charging lead, take a peg. Peg the lead to your bed sheets or pillowcase. It stops the lead falling to the floor.

In addition to the peppermint capsules, take refreshers or love hearts. Helps to disperse the wind pain.
