I've been advised to have this injection after being exposed to the virus. Has anyone else had it?

Yes I did because I had potential exposure, my blood test did not definitely confirm I was immune and my parents had no memory of me having chicken pox. THe most dangerous time to be exposed is first trimester or last few weeks.

I had two injections in my hips (not too bad although i hate needles) and that was it

Later on, one of my colleagues at work said her daughter had chicken pox but luckily for me she worked in a different office. We were planning to meet up though so I called my GP to find out if the injections I had already had gave me protection -they don't. They just help mitigate the effects of a previous exposure. You have to have the injections within a certain timescale too (a few days).

Thanks Ginger,
I had the injections yesterday, they hurt like hell. I'm feeling fine so far; should I be waiting to feel ill?

I had this with my 1st pg, as you say it hurt like hell but I didn't feel ill at all.
