Im a few days missed period now and im starting to really question if I'm pregnant.. usually it takes my body some time to show HCG so that hasnt shown yet im waiting.. i dont know what to do and i just dont think im comfortable with abortion if im pregnant..

has anyone had a csec and then fell pregnant soon after or knows anyone who has a similar story and how that went?

thanks..

i was warned against it until 12-18 months Postpartum because of the risk of uterine rupture.

I would be asking myself if I’m comfortable with leaving my youngest baby without a mother or the risk of not being able to have further children and weighing that up against my comfort re an abortion. An awful decision to have to make. Best wishes to you.

In your position I’d wait for a positive test to confirm the pregnancy and then contact the midwife team where you gave birth 4 months ago to see if you could get an appointment to discuss the risks for your individual case based on your notes from your recent C-Section.
It would make a difference to me whether an obstetrician’s advice was - well this isn’t ideal but we can manage the risk quite effectively by opting for a 2nd C-Section at X weeks to avoid you going into labour vs. - this is very dangerous for you and the baby because you’re at very high risk of uterine rupture/preterm labour/ placenta acreta etc etc.

Take it back a moment until you confirm or outrule pregnancy first. That's the first step.
Order some early detection tests that are sensitive, like FRER. Periods post baby can be a bit all over the place for months so being late might not mean much right now.

FWIW, I had an emergency section and never wanted a big gap between my babies. Had a check up 6 weeks after the birth and cried to my consultant about how I didn't want to wait 18 months or whatever they tend to recommend. She went through the research with me and ultimately showed me that the evidence is weak and that recommendation is based on an abundance of caution, ultimately telling me to get pregnant whenever I want to.

I had 5 months then fell pregnant, no issues at all aside from recovery harder the 2nd time and was highly recommended another c section not vbac

BigBoysDontCry · 28/05/2025 12:31

My 2nd was born (by c section) 13 months after my first who was an emergency section.

It was fine although my scar would not have survived labour and a vbac.

BigBoysDontCry · 28/05/2025 12:39

I should add that the reason for the 2nd section was that the same circumstance was likely to occur that resulted in my first. He was back to back, 9lb 13 and stuck on a 36 hour labour. 2nd baby was also large and sitting back to back. Consultant was going to leave me to my due date and try labour. My midwife booked me in for a section at 39 weeks and it was during the Op that the consultant said that the previous scar would not have coped with labour.

Congratulations! I'm not saying it won't be hard work, but mine are 25 and 24 this year and it's been lovely watching them grow up as very much a twosome.

User0ne · 28/05/2025 19:15

Congratulations 🎉

I had dc2 16 months this after DC1 who was emcs. Dc2 was an "easy" home birth.

Generally: the chance/risk of uterine rupture is significantly less than the chance/risk of severe complications resulting from an elcs. And whilst it is higher within 2 years of a cs it is still incredibly small. Chance/risk don't have to be your only consideration when making decisions.

Having 2 tiny tots is hard work. Go easy on yourself

urghhh47 · 28/05/2025 19:17

I had a vbac 14 months after an emcs. I did had forceps but otherwise everything was fine. I went on to have another 6 vaginal deliveries after that and one final c section for my 9th. Congratulations!

CatsorDogsrule · 28/05/2025 19:21

I was 2 months later than you, so planned c-sections 15 months apart. All was fine, no concern was raised, although they did offer a tubal ligation to be performed during the second section. I gratefully accepted! (I have 3 children total.)

Congratulations!

Now you have confirmed your pregnancy please contact your midwife team for an early consultation with the obstetrician. They can assess your individual situation based on your notes and give you a proper risk assessment to support your decision making. While you have received some good news stories from others on here - sadly this isn’t always the case.
