My 2 week old baby has oral thrush. We have been prescribed nystatin and miconazole but both of these have sold out in all pharmacies (we’re in the uk) has anyone else had this problem? Were you prescribed something different? Or used any home remedies? I just want it sorting but don’t seem to be getting anywhere!
thank you x

What did the pharmacist suggest? You need to go back to the GP tomorrow

He said to go to the gp tomorrow. I tried to see the gp the other day but they wouldn’t see her because she wasn’t registered at the doctors yet. I’ve since then been told that they have a duty of care with my baby being so young that they have to see her. I’ve also sent the registration forms in but it can take 5 days to finalise.
think I am just worried that there won’t be an alternative medication that she can use so I’m panicking that there’s nothing I can do to help it.

Who prescribed the first 2 medications? Can’t you go back to them?

My newborn had thrush and passed it to my breasts. It hurt like hell. I took a fluclozanole tablet and it sorted it right out. Not medical advice, because it says not to take if breastfeeding, but I looked up how much gets passed to baby through breastmilk and it's less than the baby dose.

We got Nystatin with no issues last week.

Are you breastfeeding ? If so this is a nightmare to get rid of. I also took the fluc tablet per a PP. I did my own research and after weeks of agony decided it was worth it. Nailed it with that the other stuff was bloody useless

Someone on another thread yesterday said that nystatin is available on Chemist4U. It's really poor that both the main treatments for babies are either discontinued or having manufacturing issues at the minute. Apparently the nystatin is supposed to be back in stock at the end of June but obviously that's no good for you.

If you do get the nystatin, don't use the dropper in the box to apply direct to baby. Use the dropper to measure the required amount in a clean cup / pot. Then use a clean finger to dip in the pot and wipe your finger all around baby's mouth, tongue, cheeks etc. Using the dropper risks missing bits that then just regrow (ask me how I know... 🥴)

Good luck and hope you get it sorted.
