Unbelievably itchy nipples help

I am 35 weeks pregnant and suddenly today my nipples have become SO sore & itchy. I can't wear a bra or any fabric over them as it irritates it so much. I have applied Lansing nipple cream in hopes that this will help. Why has this suddenly started? Any soothing suggestions please?

I have no idea but may be worth contacting midwife ? Do you itch anywhere else ? Xx

I had this too, it's in the spectrum of normal. By all means mention to the midwife but she'll just say it's hormonal. I still sometimes get it now, over a year postpartum.

Slather it in cream, it doesn't have to be lansinoh nipple cream as you're not breastfeeding yet. Aveeno baby lotion I find best for reducing skin itching. I also recommend the kind of structured conical padded bra where there ends up being a bit of air between your nipple and the fabric (looks awful but prevents chafing).

Mine never went away and my DD is now 10. They come and go, as it were! I keep it at bay with an organic moisturiser. I’d definitely blame hormones.

I honestly don't know if it will help but silver nipple cups are incredible for stopping sore nipples rub on clothes when you're breastfeeding. If you're likely to try some after the baby arrives (they're around £20 but I think my single best PP purchase) might be worth getting some early and giving them a go in addition to the other suggestions above. Also, some people are allergic to lanolin (Lansinoh) so I second trying Aveeno, just in case it might be making things worse. Hope you find something that helps x

It's possible it's thrush, rather than hormonal, thinking about it. I was swabbed for it at the doctor's once, so they can test to check. Something to rule out. It's really easy to treat if it does turn out to be that.
