Options for delivery of first baby

I have just found out I'm pregnant with my first baby. I have to make a decision immediately where I want to have the baby but have absolutely no idea what the considerations are. My options are Watford General Hospital and Lister Hospital. Both are rated 'require improvement' but I don't know any more information.
Can anyone give their experience of either? And any thoughts on what I should consider very welcome!

How come you have to decide straight away? You are also free to change your mind at any time. What sort of birth are you wanting? That will also feature heavily into which place to choose.

I was told by the hospital I have to decide before I can have my first prenatal appointment. But I only found out I was pregnant three days ago and haven't told anyone except my husband and mum so I don't know what kind of birth I want or what I need to consider.

You have to make a decision at the booking appointment just to get the ball rolling you can change your mind at any point.
I had a choice of two hospitals. Both a 30-40 minutes away, both with parking issues but one has a bus and a train options to get there and also has a more local cottage hospital connected to it which is more convenient for us and I can have most of my pregnancy appointments there although I will have to give birth a the big hospital.
Initially I would chose the most convenient to get to practically and you can do research on the two hospitals as you progress through your pregnancy.

There’s absolutely no rush OP, just flip a coin to pick one to get started and registered- you can transfer your care at any point literally up until days before you give birth

Thanks all this is super helpful! Sorry if that should have been obvious, I just got nervous I'd make a decision without the right information and then be committed!

Oh i see, yes dont stress you can literally change your mind at any point in the pregnancy. Ive opted for home birth this time round but the first time i opted for the mlu at the closest hospital, factoring in hospital rating, birth stats for previous months and mlu facilities.

For what it’s worth I had both my babies at Lister and it was fine!

Lister have been brilliant for me so far. I’ve not heard such good things about Watford.
