Potential Gestational Diabetes at 32 weeks

I had a blood test (HbA1C) about a week and a half ago which came back within normal range but I am still being sent for a glucose test due to baby measuring above 97th percentile at 32 weeks. All urine tests have been fine throughout my pregnancy too.

Has anyone ever had a negative blood test but a positive glucose test? What's the likelihood of the glucose test being positive?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

I've just been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes today at 32 weeks. This was my second glucose test as baby was measuring 97th percentile at 31 weeks. My 28 week glucose test was normal x

HBA1C is not a reliable indicator in pregnancy. My HBA1C has never been out of range, I have never had sugar in my urine and yet... currently on my second GD pregnancy. The GTT will give you a much clearer answer, hopefully it will be negative.

Thats quite scary. It means anyone who didnt take it and relied on the HBA1C can be causing harm if unchecked?

Can i ask if you have high BMI/overweight or any history of diabeties in your family?

And was your 1st baby big?

Yes, in some countries they now advise testing everyone as otherwise it's missed unless/until it's symptomatic. My friend went undiagnosed and had a very traumatic birth as result.

I have both a high BMI and family history (my dad has Type 2 diabetes), which is why I was tested. If I hadn't been tested, I don't know if it would have been caught.

My diabetes was well managed and my son was born at term weighing 7lb10oz, so all very average. I'm 29 weeks now and had a checkup earlier this week, this baby is measuring normally too.
