32 weeks and I really can't breathe! Should I call someone?

Had this on and off for the past couple of weeks, though this weekend it has been awful.

I feel like I have no lung capacity at all and I can't catch my breath. It comes and goes (leading me to think it might be the baby's position) but at its worst, I am very lightheaded and my fingertips go numb.

I'm not anaemic as I have had my bloods done and they were ok.

Several people have told me I am carrying high, do you think could this be a problem?

I'm a bit nervous to take a bath etc as I have felt pretty faint and I'm on my own in the house.

Should I call midwife and get checked or anything?

get medical help right away. I had asthma diagnosed whilst preg & needed to take medication.

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 19/05/2008 10:42

Yup I'd give her a call as a matter of urgency, even if there is no problem it sounds pretty uncomfortable so they might be able to suggest something to help.

Lulumama · 19/05/2008 10:42

well, if you feel this unwell, then of course you should, most likely it is that the baby is high and squashing your lungs, baby will hopefully drop down a little soon and give you some relief. if you feel faint then definitely don;t take a bath alone in the house. do you find your breathlessness etc is worse if you have been walking or going upstairs etc.

you must call your MW if you are concerned.

scorpio1 · 19/05/2008 10:43

ring them and please dont have a bath alone.

fondant4000 · 19/05/2008 10:44

It might also be some mild braxton hicks - which tend to make you catch your breath. It's like someone putting their hands either side of the top of your bump and squeezing

Def mention it to the mw.

mumnanny1 · 19/05/2008 10:45

I'm not sure why you would be feeling like this, I'm sure someone will know though. I would go and see a doctor or call your midwife, even if it's nothing it will reassure you.

fondant4000 · 19/05/2008 10:55

BTW I definitely had this at your stage of pg with my second pg. It was a combination of baby's position and braxton hicks I think.

I could also hardly eat anything by the end of the pg because there was absolutely no room left in there!

I'm 5 foot and about 7 stone - so I guess that could be a reason.

Anyway, sorry about the ramble. You should still see your mw about it.

Thanks everyone. Called the mw and they want me to come down to the delivery suite to take a look at me.

I'll let you know how it all goes.

Thanks for the advice

Update from yesterday ... everything is fine.

Only thing they could find wrong with me is a urine infection which they said could be causing all my symptoms. They sent away another sample for more tests, but I am much relieved, especially since there was talk of a blood clot on my lung at one point!

Thanks everyone for the advice. Even though it turned out to be a false alarm, I got to see where I will deliver my baby, and met some of the people, and it seemed really nice.
