Gestational diabetes retest 38 weeks pregnant?!?

Hi there, I just want someone else’s opinion, I had a gestational diabetes test at 32 weeks pregnant which I had passed and did not have gestational diabetes, this was tested due to a bout of glucose in my urine, the last two appointments at the hospital have been to I have had more positive glucose in my urine which has warranted another retest of the gd test. However my midwife appointment the other day in the surgery there was no glucose in my urine and I have been trying to monitor my diet, do I still attend the appointment? I just think it feels a bit silly going for a test when I could go into labour any day, I don’t live close to the hospital and selfishly feel absolutely defeated at this stage and don’t want to go sit in a hospital for hours especially after the last sugary drink test was really quite a negative experience. Of course I want to do what’s right for the baby I just think it’s quite cruel to make someone do it at this stage when I have been aware that this could be an issue for the last two weeks and the appointment wasn’t made urgent so I could have it at 36 weeks instead of 38 weeks which makes me think they aren’t concerned.

but any advice would be great!!!

I also had a scan a week ago, and baby is measuring behind not on the bigger side which makes me think I don’t have it.

Yeah it's not pleasant to have done and nothing major will change for you in the couple of weeks you have left. But it would be useful to know as could change baby's management postnatally as may need glucose levels checked. Would also spur earlier testing in a future pregnancy, and health advice for yourself outside of pregnancy. You can still have a normal sized baby with GD so I wouldn't let that be your deciding factor. Ultimately your decision.

I was told after 35 weeks the oral glucose tolerance test is no longer accurate and instead get a hb1ac blood test 🙂
