Confused about newborn sleeping advice

Hi all
Sorry if this is a really silly question. I’m expecting my first baby in June. I’m confused about the safe sleep advice - if we use a sleep sack, which seems to be the preferred option, how does the baby remain near the bottom of the crib? And do you need to use any kind of cover for them in the summer, or will they settle with just babygrow?
TIA

I think the bottom of the crib thing is if you're using blankets? Mine had a sleep sack and I just plonked him in the middle of his cot.

If it's very warm then they might settle in just a vest or thin babygrow. Mine needed swaddling to settle for a while so was just wrapped in a big muslin.

With the sleep sacks the bottom of the bed issue isn’t an issue because the sleep sacks are are fitted so the baby can’t slip underneath the cover.
You can get different tog rating which are suitable for different temperatures. I had a couple of lovely muslin ones for summer babies.

This makes a lot of sense, thank you!

One things I’d look at for sleep sacks is ones with poppers under the arms so the fitter better as a newborn. I have a beautiful Aden and Anais one, but I couldn’t use it for weeeks (and I have a pretty big baby as well) because it rode up on his face and made me worry about his safety and also made it harder to breastfeed, especially in the early days.

Yeah I would echo @toastofthetown I found it really hard to find a sleep sack to fit my newborn. It kept riding up onto his face😣 I found one with poppers under the arms in Next that ended up being a good fit but not for the first few weeks. Had to use cellular blankets until he was about 6 weeks. I suppose it depends on baby's size and shape.
Once in the sleep sack I still placed him just shy of the end of the crib, they didn't have that much extra material to warrant placing up high or anything. But yes the advice mostly pertains to blankets.
