Hi I was wondering if anyone could help,I'm 35 weeks pregnant and in severe pain with PGP to the point I cannot walk anymore practically bedbound,it hurts to turnover or basically move anymore I feel like crying my whole pelvis feels broken,I cannot do this for much longer I am on painkillers but they don't touch it nothing does,it's even affecting my legs can anyone help or give any advice of what I can do I'm at the end with this😞I've spoken to the midwife and she didn't seem bothered I just keep getting told it will be over when baby is here but not sure when that will be.....TIA

Aww I feel for you I had this twice out of my 3 pregnancies. Same with the midwives didn’t advice me on anything I could barely walk couldn’t sleep etc I use to put an ice pack on my lower back a few times a day that helped. I would also sit on my birthing ball instead of the settee as it was comfier.

I would suggest seeing a private physiotherapist and looking up the Pelvic Partnership. It can be treated with physio but the NHS dont generally see it as a priority.

Can you request an early induction or C Section?

Am I able to do that?

Absolutely nothing worked for me until I saw a Women's Health Physio who gave me a bump support, crutches, and very clear instructions: no vacuuming, no pushing a trolley, walk up and down stairs in a particular way (sorry, I can't remember if it was to lead with my stronger or weaker leg), and not to use the bannister to pull myself up.
Also, 2 carrier bags on the car seat, so you can swivel out, keeping your knees together.
It is meant to go away shortly after the baby is born as the hormones settle.
Hope you feel better soon 🌸

You are but depending on the doctor/consultant you would really have to explain how much pain your in and how it’s impacting you etc my consultant wouldn’t do it even though I hadn’t slept for weeks, I finished work at 26 weeks because of the pain. And at my 36 week appointment they said no. And booked me in for my elective c section day before my due date. My friend who didn’t have pgp ( openly admitted) and had no other medical concerns really wanted an early induction she honestly showed me her notes she had a straight forward pregnancy no complications but went into her 36 appointment crying and limping and the same doctor booked her in for 38 weeks. She laughed about it afterwards how she was good at acting! I was shocked as I was generally in so much pain I couldn’t leave the house!

Yep your midwife can refer you for an urgent physio referral unless you can already refer yourself (currently being rolled out across the country)
great advice as above, even as a physio I still have to think twice about the leading leg on stairs 😂I always think good goes to heaven so good leg leads upstairs and bad down to hell so bad leg goes first downstairs!

I am in so much pain I'm bedridden now everytime I move something snaps or clicks and causes even more pain, the burning and throbbing that goes from my lower back into bum cheeks then legs is something else and my front pubic bone feels crushed😩and so I'm hoping it's a possibility I have an appointment next Friday after growth scan so we will see, thanku for the advice🩷

A pregnancy trained osteopath can help too. I went in on crutches and came out so so so much better.

Ice pack massively helps too, calms down the inflammation.

Just as a little glimmer of hope, this was me up until I had my baby. Had an elective section on Wednesday, and once and and walking my hip pain was completely gone. Hopefully you don't have too much longer x

If I was you I would order a maternity belt off Amazon to try and help until you can be seen.
9 times out of 10 resolves when baby is born x

romdowa · 03/05/2025 11:40

I had this with my first pregnancy and it was awful, I seen a physio for a massage every week and it got me through to 39 weeks. The pain returned after birth and I eventually went to an osteopath who got me sorted and now I'm 31 weeks with my second and no pain.

ChunkyMum667 · 03/05/2025 14:04

Serola belt - order it right now. Seriously, not a bump belt, it's not about supporting the belly (issue for others), but to hold the hips together.

See a physio, they can do some massage to relieve some of the pain.

Keep legs together. Never ever put one foot down when getting out of bed or the car, always both feet on the ground. Always.

Minimise stairs use. I used to bring everything i needed downstairs every morning so I wouldn't have to go back up until nighttime.

Massage inner thighs and flutes with a massage gun or similar.

And no, you can't and shouldn't have the baby early.

A warning is that it can continue post birth for some time. I'm 8 months pp and still battling it.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/05/2025 14:10

Get satin pj’s to make moving in bed easier.

swing your legs out together - your knees need to stay close together at all
times including getting in and out if the car (the plastic bag suggestion is a good one)

get a pelvic belt and some crutches.

Good luck. It’s awful and I needed several months of physio afterwards to become pain free

Omg so it really does continue after birth😭all I've been told really is as soon as baby is out it will disappear,I'm struggling to even eat because of the pain just no appetite at all but I try x

@Wazzalass it improved a lot but was still a problem.

my sacroiliac joint at the back on the right side was the problem and made me really lopsided- to the point that once I stopped bf (earlier than I would have liked at 6 months as I hoped this would help it to settle) my underwired bras were really digging in to my ribs on my right side. It took a lot of work to get everything straight again but it is doable.

bumblebubble23 · 03/05/2025 14:24

i was in complete agony I think it’s worse than childbirth in my opinion if it’s severe. But luckily mine completely disappeared after the birth immediately it was like I never had it. Fingers crossed for you, I hope all goes well at your next appointment and you can get some help/advice maybe an early induction.

Also do u think it makes a difference baby never staying in one position? Every appointment or scan I've been to she's been either head down then she was completely transverse then she was diagonal with her head in my hip she is soooo wriggly it's unreal but causes so much pain when she does big movements makes me yelp and jump out of my skin, like she completely flips around😂
