Low PAPP A and anxious

Hi, Has anyone else had low Pappa A ? All screenings and NIPT came back normal and baby boy has measured great so far but this made my anxiety increase a little (I previously had a molar pregnancy which is linked to the placenta). The letter was pretty much saying ‘most people have a normal pregnancy and to start asprin asap’ (which I am on already). I’m 14 weeks 5 days. The letter from the NHS didn’t seem too concerned and I’m going to try to speak to a midwife tomorrow but they haven’t said how low they are just below 0.41 😔
Managed to scare myself about second half losses 😔

I had a low Papp A score with my eldest after an IVF pregnancy and stressed myself out with googling. We had some extra scans which were all okay. The consultant was surprised we’d been sent for them. All was fine and DD is now 12.

My best advice is assume all is fine until proven otherwise! Which I know is easier said than done but all is likely to be okay. Wishing you a stress free remainder of your pregnancy.

Thank you for your response this is reassuring. I’ll be having extra scans too, which I suppose is reassuring as they’ll notice anything they need to with baby size and help if needed!

Yep extra scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks. Baby 40th percentile and 7 and a half pounds so completely fine. It can cause growth problems hence the extra scans but didn't at all for me.

Ah yes now I remember they were growth scans reading @Allswellthatendswelll‘s post, I had forgotten that detail. Despite the initial stress I then felt quite lucky that I had the opportunity for extra sneak peeks because the usual scan pattern of 12 weeks, 20 weeks and then birth can feel quite far apart!

DD was 6 pounds but also three weeks early (for unrelated reasons). By 6 months she was on the 50th centile for height and weight and has remained consistently on those line for 12 years!

Hi lovely, try to see it just as a risk factor rather than confirmation that there's an issue. I have low papp A and am currently 35 weeks, baby started off on 40th centile at 20 weeks and at last growth scan was just above 10th. They've dipped below 10th previously too. But all going well so far and feeling positive!

If you're on Facebook, there's a really good group called Low Papp A Pregnancy Support Group which has lots of advice as well as positive stories 🥰

Hi! Ive also got really low PAPP - A. I have been stressed since 12 weeks when we found out. We have had other scares also and have now been given the all clear after a fetal medicine review and an amniocentesis. Its always something thats in the back of my mind. We had out 20 week scan last week and they checked babys growth and also done a doppler check. They checked the flow through the cord and also my uterine arteries blood flow too. All of which came back with good positive results which has given me some reassurance. I will need a growth scan at 32 weeks (it would have been 28 if growth and doppler results were low). Just got to get through to 32 weeks now. I will be so glad once he is here and this pregnancy is over! I work closely with obstetricians and they have told me that low PAPP-A is common and with monitoring & asprin, most babies are absolutely fine and come to term a healthy size. Hopefully this is the case for us both.

Me too, took baby aspirin as prescribed and had extra scans. Baby was all good, came bang on 38w without induction.

MyNiftyBear · 02/05/2025 16:14

I had low papp-a, around 0.25 I think. Baby was measuring small on all the scans, below 9th percentile and there was a huge pressure to induce early. I declined the induction and baby came bang on his due date and on 75th percentile - all the scans were just miles out on his weight!

I have low Papp a and I’m currently 27 weeks pregnant.

Our NIPT came back low risk and all was normal at our 20 week scan too.

We had a Doppler scan at 21 weeks to check my uterine arteries, they were fine so I was told my growth scans would start at 32 weeks. However my consultant kindly offered me the 28 week scan anyway due to me suffering with pregnancy anxiety as a result of a previous missed miscarriage and infertility (not low Papp a related).

Baby was on the 20th centile at my 20 week scan and two weeks later she was still on the 20th centile. So she is a smaller baby but they don’t think this is Papp a related.

I have my first growth scan soon which I must admit I am anxious for but I feel her kicking everyday now which is very reassuring.

I would definitely recommend joining the low Papp a Facebook group as there’s so many positive stories on there!

Hey, please don’t worry! I had this with my DD, it was honestly never an issue at all! We had extra scans which I thought was great because we got to see and check on baby so regular.
