Slow heartbeat seen 6+1

hey 👋 I was looking to see if anyone had any experiences with the current situation I find myself in.

I went for an early viability scan yesterday. I thought I was going to be at least 6 weeks 4 days and the baby was only 6 weeks 1 day. The heart beat was also found to be slow. They want me to go back in a few weeks to find out if babies heart rate is faster. Does anyone have any positive experiences with this as I have read bad outcomes online. 😞

Hi. Didn't want to read and run.

Unfortunately this is always the risk/worry going for early scans as a day either can make all of the difference.

Is this according to your LMP or were you tracking ovulation?

Hopefully in a weeks time baby will catch up and everything will be fine. Good luck x

How slow was the heartbeat?

alldaybrunch · 29/04/2025 12:52

Early scans are not that accurate and can cause a lot of anxiety. So I would say the difference between 6+1 and 6+4 is negligible. Early scans aren’t really recommended until at least 8-9 weeks, so I know it’s easier said then done but try not to worry for now

The pregnancy will be dates with you 12 weeks scan, and any dates given before that disregarded as it’s very difficult to measure such a tiny baby

Hi thanks for the response. It was LMP.

im hoping little bubba will be fine but I have just read it ends badly for a baby with a slow heart rate. However she didn’t say how slow.

So sorry.

i totally disagree with the above responses and want to give an honest opinion.
firstly an early scan like this IS useful. I’m not sure why ppl are saying it isn’t. As I’m high risk with my history I’ve received early scans on the nhs to check viability and heartbeat so why would they offer this if it wasn’t useful.

I have had several miscarriages and I’m sorry to say but a slow heartbeat at this point is not normally good news or can be corrected.

its not about it being too early or just wait and see, thats just not an accurate response. I would say please prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Knowing your options and feeling in control will help.

for those saying just wait until your 12 weeks scan that’s just ignorant as many women unfortunately have missed miscarriages and will continue to think they’re pregnant at the 12 week scan.

I hope this hasn’t upset you but there is a lot of ignorance on the post from ppl who probably haven’t even been in this situation. Unfortunately when this has happened to me it has ended in a miscarriage.

I think the point is that a scan this early is not useful in the majority of situations. I've had a molar pregnancy in the past so for my own health I needed to have very early scans. But they caused nothing but worry with dates not adding up, slow growth, I barely breathed for 3 weeks until things looked better by 9 weeks.
Most early scans are done to give reassurance to women, not medical reason. Now, I'm all for reassuring women of course. Having had a MMC at 11 weeks myself it was awful not knowing all those weeks that my baby was gone. But, a scan at 6 weeks also doesn't provide any certainty, and in my experience rarely reassures but more often creates worry.
It's too early and if dates are off by even a few days you can't see what you want to. An 8-9 week scan is much better if you need an early viability or reassurance scan, it will tell you a lot more. 6 weeks scans generally cause more worry, uncertainty and stress which is not good for anyone. When you get uncertain answers at 6 weeks it could really go either way and only time will tell.
Unfortunately do agree that a slow heartbeat at 6 weeks is not a good sign.

Fingers crossed for OP and really hoping things work out well x
