Feel awful after eating carbs / sugar. Could it be gestational diabetes?

I'm only 13 weeks. Nausea still there but has calmed down quit a bit but for a while now I've noticed that whenever I eat carbs like toast or potato either as part of a meal or on their own, I will feel awful - nauseous, 'wired' and jittery but tired, just horrible feeling. This happens about 30 mins to 1 hour after eating. If I eat sugary stuff like cake or chocolate, it's quicker to feel awful. I've recently tried some non carb meals like meat and non starchy veg and don't notice the same effect.

Has anyone else had this?

I'm wondering if it could be precursor to gestational diabetes. I didn't meet the criteria for the test for it at booking appointment, but when answering the question about family diabetes, I forgot that my dad has type 2 recently, and I forgot to tell them I have PCOS. I'm 37. Never had it in two previous pregnancies, but I was much younger then (18 and 21!!).

I would tell them about the PCOS and your family history. Each one alone will make you eligible for the GTT

You should definitely tell your midwife and request to be tested. It would be fairly rare but not impossible to for GD to develop by 13 weeks. With my last the test was offered around 22-24 weeks (I had two risk factors) as that it the most common time for it to develop.

Im really interested to read this as you’ve made me wonder if I’m the same!
I do have that glucose test booked for in a couple of weeks, I’m currently 24 weeks. I’ve been told I’m having it as my BMI is high.

For the first 18 or so weeks of my pregnancy I was totally off chocolate and barely ate it, but the last few weeks I’ve started to enjoy it again. I tend to eat chocolate just after a meal, and I’ve noticed a really full feeling. But horribly, uncomfortably full. And I’m starting to think this feeling links to when I eat chocolate and now I’m wondering if this is something to do with gestational diabetes!

Just to add I ate a lot of chocolate just before being diagnosed (was on holiday in Switzerland and it was Easter) and didn’t notice any negative effects. The only possible sign was being thirsty during the night.

I was symptomatic with gd, I asked at 12 week midwife appointment to have my test (met eligibility due to fam history) bought forward, but was told I wouldn't have it this early and it's just normal pregnancy symptoms, which i didn't believe.

My symptoms were occasional blurred vision, extreme energy crashes after meals (had to nap after lunch everyday), excessive peeing and thirst. As in I'd my glugging a huge drink, thinking about what huge drink to glug next, I could never get quenched. I got tested at 28 weeks and a lot of these symptoms have resolved. I'm still tired now, but im also anemic, but its less intense fatigue. My symptoms didn't match yours but not everyone's the same.
